It's that time again, folks. 2012 is winding down and the new year of music is upon us. Hopefully there's a return to the awesomeness of 2011 (after a decent but not terrific 2012).
2013 brings us new albums from old rockers (Adam Ant), new rappers (Azealia Banks), old Smiths (Johnny Marr), grungers (Smashing Pumpkins), titans of hip-hop (Eminem), pop superstars (Katy Perry, Lady Gaga), indie favorites (Tegan & Sara, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend), British invasion (The Big Pink), New York genius (Guards), L.A. genius (HAIM), as well as The Band of Our Time (Arcade Fire) and The Band Of 20 Years Ago (My Bloody Valentine).
The new Yo La Tengo leaked a few days ago if you want to get a head start!
New MBV is already placeholding #1 on my year end list, assuming it doesn't come out in the next five days (which I feel like is an actual possibility).

loveless is in my top 10 albums ever but im really nervous about the new one
Meh, I'm way outta touch. #1 and 2, if both hold up to expectations, by themselves will make 2013 a winnah winnah chicken dinner, but not much else on that list is jazzing me. Maybe Nick Cave.
I just really hope Kevin Shields hasn't spent 20 years trying to actually make Loveless 2, because that didn't require twenty years.

cant be the only one
Not much to be nervous about to me... new album from them is basically a freeroll. And I have confidence that Shields wouldn't put out a product unless he thought it was worth being heard, given how picky and crazy he is.
Not exactly the type of music posted in these threads, but this is a friend of mine, so posting anyway. It's legit too, his new album hit #6 on the iTunes world chart.
The rap duo The Underachievers who recently signed to Brainfeeder will probably make some noise in 2013. The songs they released in 2012 are all pretty ridiculous. The whole spiritual/indigoism/whatever stuff will probably give them some horribly annoying fans, but these dudes can rap, especially that AK guy.
I'm quite looking forward to hearing Lady Gaga's jazz album collab thing with Tony Bennett (I don't know whether to embrace this or be ashamed - haha).
that's a link to a video that touches pretty broadly on the shoegaze genre. it's part of a series of videos that the guy in the videos (ex-p4k writer chris ott) has been doing. i'm not sure how many here will be into it, but he just posted this one yesterday and it's one of his more accessible vids. regardless, if you're into criticism or just want to hear some facts you may have not known, these vids are really excellent. ott has a wealth of knowledge and opinions, and is very passionate about music in general.
i would recommend everyone watch in which he discusses bruno mars' "locked out of heaven" and how it relates to the police. it's a great intro to what he (ott) kind of does.
Heh, I love that dude and never would have thought he'd get posted about here. He's one of my favorites on Twitter also, probably because he's not affiliated with any site so he can just kind of be a super knowledgeable curmudgeon. I'm kind of into music criticism and think he's doing really cool work compared to the garbage being churned out by most sites these days.
