Green Day played an impromptu "secret" show in L.A. last night at a tiny venue, The Echoplex -- where I saw The Duke Spirit, ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, and Sebadoh.

A band that was even awesome in an amphitheater setting was even better in a shoebox. So great. I'm still not the biggest fan of their recordings, but on stage these guys just take it to a different level.

nice, how "secret" was it? did they sell tickets or you just showed up.

how did you find out about it?

It wasn't too secret -- tickets were sold to the general public -- but it was announced day-of, and my friend just heard about it and snapped up two tix before I knew what was happening. Sold out within 15 mins I think.

I saw a lot of industry types and such; not a typical pop-punk crowd.

Has anyone else made a ballot for Pitchfork's People's List thing? Let's all share our lists imo.

EDIT: Can already tell by looking at other people's that the final list will skew heavily towards soft white guy indie, but my voice must be heard!

sarcastic rat is that voice a female voice?

Pretty much. Have to counteract the legions of people putting dreary lame-guy folk/wuss rock on their lists. It won't be effective though.

pretty solid/eclectic list

except for 3 SK albums in the top 10
08-09-2012 , 02:11 PM
Yeah, I thought that was kind of lame but I love each of them too much. They have like two more albums that I could have put in the top 50 too.

Anyways, I want to see other lists.

FWIW I think the top five will be Kid A, OK Computer, Aeroplane, Funeral, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Not sure what order though.

interesting, you like broadcast! and a few other artists i like; did not expect this list from you.
i have "The Noise Made By People" and the first few singles on vinyl.

lol didn't know that these releases are worth so much.

kb 50 words for snow is an awesome album.

i could never pull such a list together... 50 is not enough; and i'd have to add way too many albums manually to the list.

This is very cool, I can see this will take a couple hours of my weekend. My list will definitely include some soft white guy indie.

Yeah, Broadcast is one of my all-time favorites. I was legitimately depressed when Trish Keenan died last year.

I decided to stick to 50 because I'm really picky about what I like and have only been actively listening to new music for a couple years now... so I really haven't heard nearly enough to make anything authoritative. But making lists is fun etc.

It's about a month old, but this is a really good interview, James Murphy on NPR Fresh Air
