Lol.

Never heard of a PA, whats this magic you speak of?

For real internet tough guy, i peronally find it annoying and know that, while i may be in the minority, im certaintly not alone.

Go back to your campfire singalong old timer.

Bon Iver performance on SNL last night was incredible.

Does anyone listen to The Soft Pack? Their new album should be coming out in the spring. I'd post some links if I was on my laptop

Yeah I like the soft pack, my friend is related to one of the guys in the band. Used to go by The Muslims, until they decided to tour Europe.

i saw him in bearsville and it was a great show, yes there were lots of hipsters there earnestly singing along, yes it was still awesome, get over yourself

I would expect everyone who participates on a music forum to know what a PA is, which is why I made a smart ass remark when ham sammy explained it to me/us. Maybe thats ambitious of me. Though I stand by my statement and would also argue that at an acoustic show the PA does little to combat against the sing along. Its all good. Next topic.

The bon iver snl videos where great. Been listening to new ryan adams, which is decent. I particularly like the title track ashes and fire. Definitely recalls some of heartbreaker and is a nice step in that direction imo
02-05-2012 , 04:23 PM
lol ok, yeah it doesn't matter what type of instrument or vocal you run through the board, you can still make them as loud or soft as you want

when i saw him he actually walked out into the crowd for the encore and played with no mic (small venue) and even then you could hear him just fine. pretty epic actually and sounds like you are gonna miss it because you have a stick up your ass about how tight the pants are on the guy next to you.

i love bon iver and i like beth.rest but watching all of them do the white boy R&B bounce to those peter gabrial keyboards is hilarious, not gonna lie

Not enough love for Gonjasufi IMO, for those that enjoyed his 2010 offering A Sufi and a Killer we have MU.ZZ.LE which is as tripped out but seems more accessible, really good physchedelic beats.

It's a re-release but I missed it first time round so it's new to me, Porter Ricks Biokinetics is incredible dub techno / electronica. For those that like the more atmospheric electronica this is ****ing wonderful.

Not much new stuff doing it for me atm

took a while but WU LYF is really growing on me

Last full album I really connected with, although I did just listen to it for the first time a month ago. I'd definitely recommend to anyone who it didn't click with the first time around to give it another shot; it's so worth it.

Little early to say, but I'm pretty sure Concrete Gold is gonna end up as one of my FSOAT.

Strongly disagree, and it certainly runs contrary to his wishes. At the Philly show he very clearly informed the audience that they should not be afraid to sing along or to talk to him, although it still seemed people were terrified, which proved to be somewhat awkward. Anyway, the acoustics were fantastic and there was never any concern about him being drowned out.

He also immediately invited anyone to come down in the aisles at the start of the show, which I snap took him up on and found myself at the foot of the stage instead of the back of the orchestra. Although it really didn't matter because the venue was magic from any angle. Definitely an experience I will cherish till mind or life escapes me.

interesting.
i have the whole catalogue of Chain Reaction, Basic Channel, M etc. at home.
bought every single 12" when they came out in the 90's and later (rhythm & sound, burial mix).
i have several copies of many releases since i love them so much and played them in clubs.
but the porter ricks releases are the only ones i don't listen to anymore and i cannot understand why they re-issued biokinetics.

you know the label owner and the whole history behind these labels?
if not, you should :-)

http://www.basicchannel.com/

for me this is the best and most important music ever.
almost everything i listen to is inspired by these artists.

I've a lot of the Rhythm and Sound stuff and most of it remains available. The Porter Ricks stuff I think is very different like it's shed it's dub roots without actuall shedding them. Like with R&S I think the emphasis remains on the dub and with PR the emphasis is on whatever succeeds the dub whether it be electronica or techno.

true, the porter ricks releases are pretty different.

do you know deepchord/echospace?

they still sound like basic channel in the 90s. i like.

This is why I love these threads, I'm just picking up last years Hash-bar loops and I'll let you know but the first couple of samples from boomkat seem really good

Awesome post!

It seems my concerns were unfounded and i may have been a bit dismissive of the thought initially. I will definitely keep an eye out for a chance to go see. Thanks for the insight!

Just to try and steer this away from dubstep... here's a couple of youtubes for The Soft Pack. New album is out this year and I think they should be touring again

Oh yeah haven't seen them mentioned here, the album technically came out last year but I think they will probably get a lot of hype this year. Unknown Mortal Orchestra

best EP so far in 2012 imo and includes a very nice remix by thomas fehlmann (former member of The Orb).

Really liked Tennis and First Aid Kit albums. Really did not like Cloud Nothings album because the singers voice is so damn whiny.

The new Van Halen album is pretty good. True story.

I've never been a big VH fan but I find their style kind of refreshing compared to the stuff that's out there now.
