While we are doing singer/songwriters I think a lot of people might like this one. White Buffalo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0mlPCr_s7U

Album is kinda like Eddie Vedder meets Cat Stevens

The xx take out the 2010 Mercury Music Prize. Very pleased to hear this.
09-07-2010 , 07:05 PM
Other nominees for mercury music prize:

Biffy Clyro, Only Revolutions.
Corinne Bailey Rae, The Sea.
Dizzee Rascal, Tongue N' Cheek.
Kit Downes Trio, Golden.
Foals, Total Life Forever.
I Am Kloot, Sky at Night.
Laura Marling, I Speak Because I Can.
Mumford And Sons, Sigh No More.
Paul Weller, Wake Up the Nation.
Villagers, Becoming a Jackal.
Wild Beasts, Two Dancers.

I was expecting to be familiar with some or most of the list then didn't recognize anyone but Mumford & Sons. Whats good?
09-07-2010 , 07:46 PM
Foals and Laura Marling are both really great, if very different. Dizzee Rascal is a lot of fun. Can't say I'm too familiar with the rest.
09-07-2010 , 08:29 PM
I was really hoping Mumford & Sons took the prize.

Wild Beasts, Two Dancers is an awesome album. It has this semi-dark mid-evil times type vibe to it definitely check it out imo.
09-08-2010 , 09:22 AM
the villagers album is pretty good too

why no americans have heard of biffy clyro makes my brain hurt, they are easily the best rock band in britain today.
09-08-2010 , 10:19 AM
british bands are really hard to care about 'cause within two months there's always a group that's saving rock n roll EVEN MORE.
09-08-2010 , 10:43 AM
they arent claiming to save rock n roll. they are five amazing albums deep and deserve more recognition, they are finally getting it in the uk.

and your comment is an obvious troll and i clearly took the bate, silly me.
09-08-2010 , 10:47 AM
damn boorish americans
09-08-2010 , 10:49 AM
Also, I can't believe I'm just discovering Drive-By Truckers.
09-08-2010 , 10:50 AM

09-08-2010 , 10:53 AM

Once you're done, check out Patterson Hood's solo material (he's a founding member of the band).

What album of theirs would you recommend as an entry point?
09-08-2010 , 11:00 AM
i would start with

vertigo of bliss
puzzle

then

infinity land
only revolutions
blackened sky.

that is my preference.

however puzzle is their album which let them break into the mainstream (whey a new label helped of course) so take that fwiw, every track could be a single.
