I've just created an index sticky for the Small to High forum here:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...29#post2570129

Should I do the same for this forum? Would you use it?

The reason I'm asking instead of just doing it is because unlike the S-H index a little more work would be required from myself. This is because of how the SEARCH works.

The minimum length of a "word" for searching is 3 characters. So I can search subjects for 100 but I can't search for 50 or 25 or 10 or 5.

So the SEARCH would have to be for 50NL or 25NL or 10NL or 5NL.

There is also no OR in the search, so I couldn't setup a search for: 50NL OR NL50.

This means that in order for this index to work, the buy-ins in all subjects would have to be the same. They'd all have to be 50NL. I already edit subjects to add buy-in levels when missing, now I'd have to also change subject with NL50 or 50 NL to all be 50NL.

However, I do think such an index may be useful for a lot of people given the wide range of buy in levels in this forum - If you want to read all 10NL posts when there's a bunch of 50NL posts on the front page.

So please let me know if you think you'd use this or not...

Hmmm....would be good and bad imo. Great in that you could easily find your current level, so nice in a selfish sorta way. However, I'm afraid the lower guys would lose a bit of the benefit from some of the more experienced posters.

I don't think I would exclusively use the index, so it wouldn't keep me from looking at other levels. However, when I wanted to look for my level, I could. I doubt it would dramatically change the number of views for your typical post. It also sounds like the index wouldn't be reliable enough to be able to catch everything (because we're inconsistent with naming conventions), so you'd probably still scan the forum anyway. So... useful tool, but doesn't replace browsing the forum.

Yeah, the reason I'm asking instead of just doing it as I did in the other forum is that I'd try to edit all hand history posts to work with the index. Don't have to do that in the other forum because searching for 100 or 200 works fine. Searching for 50 or 10 is too short for the search to handle. It's not a huge amount of work or anything, but I won't do it if nobody's ever going to use it...

For general strat threads, LC threads, chat threads, etc you'd still want to browse the forum normally.

It's really just an option for people who want to browse only a certain level, even if they only do so sometimes. It might mean some people spend less time at levels other than their own, but at the same time if you normally play 50NL and decide to spend some time helping the n00bs, you can easily pull up a bunch of 5NL or 10NL threads and look for interesting posts to comment on.

50NL is pretty easily the most popular level in this forum and it can dominate the front page at times. This should make it easier for people playing lower to find their threads quickly...

I liked the idea at first glance, but I wouldn't bother.
I'm all for optimizing efficiency, but it seems like extra work for little reward.
This is a great idea for ssnl, but here I think it works out differently..
5nl players are better off trying to understand the 50nl threads,
50nl can deal with not clicking a few 5/10nl posts,
and 25nl is reading 10-50nl threads.
If that's not enough already, there's a search button..
so two searches gets me all the 10nl nl10 I can get.

Although I was tempted to support this simply for the title-fixing.
