This may seem out of place, but it is a question I have discussed with many different people and have gotten many different answers. The question is simple:

"If you could create a bot, would you use it?"

FR, imo, is one of the easiest games to bot for. The nature of the game allows for bots to profit with a slight WR and RB, esp given the prevalence of mass tabling today.

I'm not proposing this to see if you could build one, nor for ppl to go "OMG THIS PLAYER ARE BOT"...but more as a question of morality. There is no right or wrong answer, but I am interested in *why* you feel what you feel

Happy Discussing

but seriously I don't think so... when it seems to good to be true, it usually is.

the idea of free money is always tempting because of human nature though.

Building a bot and using it is against the TOS for virtually every poker site (I can't think of one that "allows" it). When you signed up, you agreed to abide by their rules and the consequences of violating the rules.

It therefore depends on what your word is worth. If it is worth little, then you'll do this. If your word means something, you won't. Simple as that.

Adjusting for today's US$, it is like the story of Winston Churchill asking a society lady if she would sleep with him for $100 million. She said, "Of course." Then he asked if she would sleep with him for $50. Her response was, "Who do you think I am, a whore?" "We established that madam, we are just figuring out the price."

Ooops I voted 'Yes' then read Venice's comments. I wouldn't do it now b/c it's against the TOS.

As an aside, according to a friend of mine who would know, good bots now exist for h/u poker and he expects FR bots to be effective in a few years.

No.

okay i can't edit my post so ill add this. i wasn't reading the OP in a sense of would you still do it even if it was against the TOS of a website

of course i wouldn't do it if it was against a sites rules, they obviously have some sort of system for bot checks and everything, just like how i don't chip dump or multiaccount to make money. i wouldn't risk everything i have for creating a bot.

No. If I were interested in stealing money, there are less risky and less time consuming ways to do it.

Seems like quite the opposite to me.

honestly if I knew i could get away with it I would do it 100% and feel no moral obligation not to. As a poker player you are constantly looking for weaker players to play and take their monies, I see no difference except a bot won't tilt/get tired. Maybe i wouldn't have it on every day but yeah i'd do it.

Another issue is that a bot will never play as well as a human can. You might get a bot to play GTO or slightly exploitable but it's never going to be able to adjust as well as a human. So it will never have as high of a WR and other players will be able to exploit it over time. Doesn't mean it can't be profitable.

yeah I remember in a poker cast about a year ago they were talking about a HU bot that beat some very good pros. Think it would only play limit tho because the structure is much simpler.

That's Polaris, a HU limit bot. That's a much simpler problem than FRNL, believe me.

I guess bots are advancing pretty quickly. These were NL H/U bots that he was talking about.

Probably not. Smeone would be smart enough to figure out the bot and learn how to manipulate it.

Depends on the consequences when you get caught.

I play poker for the fun mostly, so I would lose a lot of it if I were to use a bot...
And it's against the rules, so there's no way I would.

That's the point I was making when I quoted Zeth. He says less risky, I say waat? So you get caught lose your coins, get banned or whatever. Big deal when compared to going to prison for whatever else he's thinking about.

I don't know the first thing about programming so owning a bot isn't likely. However if I knew how to make one I would, and use it at sites other then FTP/Stars. (UB) It would be fun to create something and keep tweaking it until it starts winning.

I would imagine making a bot to beat limit, or one to beat those push/fold hyper turbo sngs would be easier then NL cash games.

Shortstacking NL bots and NL bots playing turbo SnGs (which, after folding for a few levels, is the same math as an SS bot) are already in the wild, according to threads I've been seeing in the Zoo for a while now.

I don't see a moral conflict here, so... possibly?
Question: Would You Bot? Quote

I'd manage to convince myself that it wasn't an ethical dilemma if it wasn't against TOS.

I wouldn't try it unless the sites allowed it though...so how do I answer the poll?
Question: Would You Bot? Quote

No, purely because the more widespread botting gets, the quicker the game of poker dies off/becomes a nit-fest. Now we wouldn't want our beloved game to die off would we?

But otherwise, hell yea free money
