Hi all, first post long time lurker here. I live in Delaware and play on the Harrington site. Yesterday I got beat with a full house vs straight flush then the latter hand. Needless to say it was cooler after cooler all day long.

I was dealt KK on the button. I raised to 65 cents (.05/.10 cent game), and got one caller in the big blind. The flop came J A A, and the big blind bet 30 cents. I called and the turn came a 2. The big blind checked and I checked behind. The river came another Ace, so I had turned the full house. The big blind shoved his remaining stack $9.70 and I paused to think about the hand. I put him on a Jack and made the call. He showed A 10 and took the pot with quad Aces.

What did I do wrong here? I can't see getting away with KK here, no way I put him on quads. Any advice or comments on my play would be greatly appreciated as this hand just befuddled me. Thanks alot.

If villain has the case A, then we're going broke every time imo. There might be someone who could find a fold, but that guy is a hero. Realistically, 10nl will jam here with almost any pp but definitely TT+.

You're up against quads almost never. Unfortunately OP, this is the "almost" part of almost never.

Standard play imo.

Why do you think villain overbets without having the A here? Risking his entire stack to win so little (assuming ppl will almost always fold) as a bluff? Does not make any sense. Imo easy fold even if it was 2nl. Ppl cold call a lot pf with Ax hands at these stakes.

What you did wrong was call when you should have folded. 4 of a kind is not that rare on this runout. With that sizing, it doesn't make sense for him to do that with anything other than an ace. Too many single Ax hands both of you could have to make that sizing as a bluff.

You might not be running into coolers as much as you think. This hand was not one of them.

Lol no. But maybe on this site since I've never heard of it. I'd call but I'd definitely think he could have quads and wouldn't be fist-pumping w/ the call.

Why would you put him on a jack?

Look at how passively the Villain played this Ax hand, is this the person who would shove the river trying to get you to fold your most likely hand aces full of jacks, so that he wouldn't chop?

I've never seen KK be good in this situation.

The ace doesn't help your hand in any significant way. The only hand that you beat on the river that you didn't beat on the turn is the flopped jacks full.

The best way to avoid that situation is by using the "No set, no bet" rule. When you saw the two aces pop up, you had just two pair at that point. When the villian bet after seeing the flop, this usually gives the clue that you're behind in the hand. Always look for trips whenever you have a pair. In this situation, you needed a third K to make your full house valid.
