Hey Guys,

today I post a float/bluff.
I believe the way, how I play the hand, could work. In this case not
Please read my thoughts (Spoiler) after you check the history.

888 Poker - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (BTN): $11.02
SB: $10.59
BB: $15.28 19/8 (36 Hands) no reads about defend blinds
UTG: $10.32
UTG+1: $10.00
MP: $5.40
MP+1: $10.83
CO: $10.47

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.15) Hero has Q J

fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.30, fold, BB raises to $1.05, Hero calls $0.75

Spoiler:
I Call this in this spot.
I think, a lot of players say: "Fold against this 3Bet"
But I think in this case, his 3Bet Range is wide (BB vs. BU) and Iam IP with 110BB ES.

Flop: ($2.15, 2 players) 7 K 8
BB bets $0.70, Hero calls $0.70

Spoiler:
Very small Bet and I float this Flop, with the intention to bet the Turn after his Check.
I can pick up some flush and straight Draws at the Turn.

Turn: ($3.55, 2 players) 3
BB checks, Hero bets $1.50, BB raises to $3.87, fold

Spoiler:

Sick Turncard with no help.
He checks, I bring my float to the end.
He raise me bet and I fold this Hand.

BB wins $6.23

Is this a possible way to play this hand or burning money?

Greetings,
Christian

i would of checked the turn and folded to the turn bet if he bet first on the turn. if you think his 3 bet range is wide you should have some good reason for it, like if it shows up in the stats and if you don't have a good reason to think his 3 bet is wide then fold QJs

I don't mind the pre-flop call so long as you have a plan for the flop. This is the sort of hand that can get people in big trouble. You're really hoping to flop some good draws. The high card value of your hand is more precarious as it can lead to domination situations so you need to be wary of how far you're willing to continue on say a Jxx flop.

So...you flop nothing. Time to check fold. Yes you have some back door draws but they're really only of value if you can combine them with some fold equity. Given that you're the one calling a c-bet then those are not reasons to continue with the hand.

Do you need to get tricky at 10NL and/or is it wise?
QJ is a hand dominated by lots of combos in a 3b range: AQ, AK, AJ, KQ...if he's light KJ
But what reason other than bu vs bb do you have to believe he's light? You say you have no read. What hands do you dominate in a standard 3b range from the bb?
One might consider this FancyPlaySyndrome?
On the turn, you might rep the K vs an underpair, but what if he calls one time? Do most 10NL players like to call?
Bluff less? Call less? @ 10NL?

Thanks for the answers.

Of course you cant know to 100%, that his range is wide. But the chance looks quit better as a UTG vs. MP situation, I think.
He is a multitabling Reg and I think he understand, my BU Range is wide.
So the chance is there, his 3Bet range in this spot is wide as well.
Against the “standard” 3Bet Range, QJ looks bad. But I see much more hands.

At this flop, he will Cbet with a lot of hands.
This tiny bet, I like to call with my runner runner draws. And there is a chance, he will give up at the turn.
If he 2nd Barrel, I fold without improvements.

So my plan preflop was, hit the flop hard, pick up some draws or float with a weak hand (but some chances to improve) and try to steal the pot at the turn IP.
My range includes PP´s, Kx, Draws... So my turn bet dont look so much like a pure bluff.

NL10 includes many solid players, where you can play tricky.
Of course it is not necessary. You can also play ABC Poker all the time.
But I think this “robot play” cannot improve your game.
Make small mistakes and try “no-standard lines”, help to upgrade your pokermindset.

But I understand your criticism about this spot. There are much better spots to float Villains. With more reads and a better hand.
But I think there was a solid chance to win this Pot after the 3Bet call,

Thanks and greetings,
Christian

I don't mind floating the pot tbh. Most people cbet in 3bet pots via default.

I wouldn't do it without reads though. Also like others say its nicer with a little bit of equity, draws etc.
