How to play exploitatively against this player type? How to play exploitatively against this player type?

I have recently added some stats to my HUD, thanks to JFT's advice these stats include Aggression factor across all streets. This particular Villain has Cbet Flop 81%, Cbet turn 61%, AFpF 3, AFf 19 !!, AFt 4, and AFr 4. So evidently he cbets way to much and plays way too aggressively on the flop in general. My query is how should I be looking to exploit him? not just in this hand but in general. I'm thinking that I should be:

1) Relentlessly x/raising him ?
2) 3betting thinly for value ?

But how about on flops that he cbets that I whiff but almost certainly whiff him too? Should I be looking to bluff aggressively or simply let him take down every flop he cbets that I whiff and raise for thin value/call down when I hit something?

You beat a maniac by rarely folding your strong hands while making your range appear weak. You should only bet with hands that can withstand significant pressure. Don't 3bet to find out where you are at or to protect your hand. You profit against maniacs by giving them every opportunity to bluff.
You will usually have the correct odds to draw because maniacs will attack wet turns and rivers trying to represent those draws.

If maniac is cbetting a wide range, feel free to punish him, esp on dry boards and boards that should be good for your range and bad for his. Check/Raise as a bluff with you air and weak showdown hands. Also, if he is barreling infrequently, you can check/call the flop and lead the turn for a small bet as a bluff, and villain will probably fold frequently enough to make that immediately profitable.

If villain is cbetting a high rate look to take advantage of the capped nature of his range when he does check back flops. He will usually have some sort of weak showdown hand. You can exploit this by potting the turn and over betting rivers.

In this specific hand example you don't want to out-level yourself. At the end of the day you've just been 3bet as the UTG opener by an 18/12 in the SB. This should make you suspect that villain's range is a lot more value heavy than if say you had opened from cutoff or button.

I'd also be wary of reading too much into turn and especially river, stats for someone with whom you have so few hands on.

I'm with Sprouts here, but had a couple comments to add.

You have 44% equity vs villain's full 3! range preflop, but villain just did this from the SB, so he's probably tighter than 88+,ATs+,KQs,AQo+ here. I'll add, at the ustakes, I just don't see many villains 3! light.

The flop does you no good, so I'd fold it there.

Next, to address how to exploit a villain who is overly aggressive, I'm going to try to take some notes on how he responds to getting raised and that's going to determine how I play against him. If he often folds to raises, I float him as much as possible. If he responds aggressively to raises, then is the time to 3! and check-raise the villain with the higher end of your range.

Judging from the stats on this villain, I'd expect him to be reasonably tight vs raises, so, in a vacuum, I'm not going to check-raise and 3! him, but I'm going to float him. This does two things:

1) if this villain is checking, he is giving up, I'll bluff at those pots mercilessly

2) if he isn't giving up, I'm not raising to give him the chance to keep bluffing.

I think it’s fine to occasionally 4 bet this hand. Sure he has 3bet an utg raise however some villains pay little attention to anything other than their 2 cards, I.e. he is likely 3betting the same range vs utg as he is mp, co and btn. We need a bigger sample to determine this.

I have encountered a ton of these aggro 3bettors from the blinds. I would be checking his 3bet percentage by position, and if he 3betting a higher percentage from the blinds than the button I will be widening my 4 bet range considerably.. again though we need a much bigger sample.
