Got so confused in this hand.

Should hero not just check back river in the first place?. Villain C/r flop. check turn then Check/raise river. It is a donkey way to play but hard to belive he doesnt have a 4 in his hand here

Thought there was value on the river from lower flushes, Ahigh that spazzed on a paired board, OPs (tho they would prob bet the turn).
