In hand 1 I feel like my biggest mistake is raising the river (and possibly folding pre), and in hand 2 it's calling the river. Hard to know if it's just results oriented thinking though. Should I be playing these hands differently?
Hand 1 sure but I just watched him float with air into a donk on the turn with a pair of 5s, no flush blocker and at most 5 outs so I wanted to play a pot w/ him. figured I was gonna be ahead of his range when I call and I can fold if I miss
Should I still be folding to this guy? Normally I fold k8o to a 3x raise
It doesn’t matter if he is a maniac. If you play trash hands like K8, you give up a lot of your edge vs this guy. You’re not going to hit the flop often enough to make this play worth it in the long run. Just be patient. Wait until you have a good starting hand, make top pair (or even 2nd pair vs some maniacs) and then call down.
Hand 1: I like to raise this hand pre against passive opponents. Flop and turn are standard. River is horrendous. You will never get called by worse and he won't fold better hands if it was a bluff.
Hand 2: pre is borderline, probably slightly EV-. This hand doesn't hit many flops and is easily dominated when hitting top pair. As played, flop and turn are standard. River is a fold, and it's not even close. You beat nothing but a heart draw. Not enough to call with those odds. They will often show a naked 5 or other nonsense.

should probably just stick to ABC until I have a better grasp of when not to, rather than putting myself in these spots. still learning
what's the bottom end of your BB flatting range against a button 3x? is it KTo? Tighter? Does it change if you know they're stealing often?
Hand 1 pre is fine. 100% raising turn large vs a maniac to get value from Kx hands, happily calling if he shoves. As played never ever reraising river.
I think calling K8o in bb vs a loose btn open is fine. flop and turn call seems fine. Maybe fold turn to large sizings and call smaller sizings. River looks like a fold.
