Hi, I'm a 8/16c lag reg and had been playing full ring against 2 particular villains for about 2 hours on 250bb and got into a strange hand.

vill1 (270bb) is tag and, apart from some low opening bet sizings from early pos, was fairly solid and demonstrated some thinking ability. There was one hand though (not the one I'm asking for advice on) when I thought his play was highly suspect/wrong when he got into a deep turn war ai with nut flush draw on a super wet board with one over in pos as defender.

vill 2 tag(100bb), fairly weak

Flop comes As8s5c

vill cbets 1/3 pot 3bb, sb calls and I raise top pair 9 kicker to 15bb pot. I rarely do this, and they certainly hadn't seen me do it, but they had seen me occasionally raise draws (though not oop). My reasoning was that his cbet size was unlikely to mean set or 2 pair, but included draws and an ace worried about the texture multiway and 2 pairs, sets etc.

vill1 min rr to 27bb. Now my question here is not so much whether I should call that, or my 2bet, but about his play. I may be overthinking this a bit, given that he has shown a bit of fishiness, but would think he's unlikely to risk a re-raise with ak potentially drawing dead etc. So he seems to be repping a set of aces.

This seems incredulous given his small cbet...or is it? I would have thought that a set of aces would surely cbet bigger and he's probably on a flush draw, which seems equally dubious play, especially when he's in pos.

Would such a low cbet with a set of aces be sensible?

Thanks.

Apologies, but I am still having trouble reconstructing the action so far in the hand, which will impact what ranges we put villains on, along with our probable perceived range. Are you able to convert the HH into the usual forum format please? (If for some reason you don't have the HH file, from memory I think you can manually edit a HH in your posts.)

Pending further HH info... if he thinks it will make you misread his hand and start getting busy with TP, I guess so?

Me too.

I think (but not sure) that OP has A9 (whether suited or unsuited we're not sure, sounds like it doesn't matter)
I think (but not sure) that it folds round to the button who opens, possibly to 3BB.
I think (but not sure) that the SB calls and OP in the BB also calls, making the pot 9BB.
I think (but not sure) that SB checks, hero in BB checks, button cbets 3BB into 9BB, SB calls, hero check-raise to 15BB and button to 27BB.

Why do you think this is AA rather than 88 or 55, for example?
