Hi all,

What would you say is a sensible figure for bankrolls at the following stakes:

Nl2
Nl5
Nl10
NL20

Currently I'm sitting on 200. I've read 500 is a good figure for nl10, I've also read 10% is reasonable too. I'm currently sticking to Nl5 but I'm not sure when would be a reasonable figure to hit NL10, or if I'm under rolled for Nl5. My win rate is average/good over a 10000 hand sample size.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I suggest you start taking shots at the next limit when you're comfortable with your game and the money swings it involves

Yeah maybe. I've checked out nl10 just out of curiosity and it's a lot nittier than nl5, which isn't too much of a bad thing

you don't have to move up all at once, either. You can introduce tables gradually with a smaller bankroll if they look good. You do want to make sure you can handle the swings, though, before moving up. That means not only not getting frustrated at the naturally bigger losses, but also not getting too elated with the bigger gains. You should be playing it like the same game, unemotionally.

I also wouldn't make sweeping generalizations about a particular stake. Just like 10k hands is not a sufficient sample to determine skill or winrate, popping into a table and playing a few rotations is not a good representation of how a particular stake plays. I can say that you will find less bad players on 10 as opposed to 5, naturally, and so on up the stakes, but that doesn't mean that there isn't soft money if you are willing to carefully table select. also : table select, table select, table select. 2 tables with position on deep loose players is better than 4 tables full of 11/8 nits

My own advice would be to play 30k hands at 5nl before moving up to 10 to get a feel for your average winrate. If you are raking in 6bb+/100 I would say start taking some shots. Also track your ev bb/100 throughout your sessions to make sure that variance isn't just in your corner.

Very helpful, thank you.
