Hello, opponent is a 38/15 in 116 hands. My doubt in this spot and many others, as I have several aces in my open range(like all suited ones + non suited broadways), when should I value bet river or check back? Thanks

PokerStars - €0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 148.8 BB
BB: 110.4 BB
UTG: 146.2 BB
Hero (CO): 100 BB
BTN: 101.4 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has A T

fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, SB calls 2.6 BB, fold

Flop: (7 BB, 2 players) 5 A 7
SB checks, Hero bets 4.4 BB, SB calls 4.4 BB

Turn: (15.8 BB, 2 players) T
SB checks, Hero bets 20 BB, SB calls 20 BB

River: (55.8 BB, 2 players) K
SB checks, Hero bets 30 BB, SB calls 30 BB

Hero shows A T (Two Pair, Aces and Tens)
(Pre 72%, Flop 82%, Turn 100%)
SB mucks A 9 (One Pair, Aces)
(Pre 28%, Flop 18%, Turn 0%)
Hero wins 110 BB

Really depends on board texture, the action and the player type of course.... If you want to put it generally you're better off going for two streets rather than three on a lot of your weak aces....the best method b/b/c is prob the most aggressive line and you might overrep your hands... B/c/b looks a lot weaker and gets a lot more hero calls.... C/b/b is great on super dry flops to induce bluffing vs aggressive players and underrep your hand.

However, I'm not sure if your hand really reflects the question you're asking....b/b/b is clearly the line to take there.

You really want to avoid value owning yourself when you're dominated. To achieve this, consider what types of aces villain might have depending on their position and the pré-flop action and of course player type. If you open UTG and get called on CO you're more likely to see stuff like Axs. Don't get involved with stuff like A6-ATo unless you're OTB. When a TAGfish or semi competent small blind player flats, you're much more likely to see pocket pairs and less often Ax type hands.

Great reply, thanks a lot. Yeah I’m afraid of auto value betting myself on certain boards, as I see a lot of Aj/Aqo calling only in late positions while I usually 3 bet those hands there.

You should try using a small size for your weaker aces and a large size for your stronger aces. This will allow your villain to fold less hands when you use the smaller size and you can get hands that you beat to call you which would have folded to your larger size.
