3 bet call, got lost on the river 3 bet call, got lost on the river

First time posting a hand, so please bear with me.

I realize a 3bet call OOP is questionable here, but trying to emerge from ABC and think this is a spot I need to learn how to play.

Problem is when I got what I was looking for on the turn, I froze.

Global 10NL FR
Early in session no real reads, but no one at the table so far looks as if they may be getting out of line.

Hero: UTG+1 (9.60) :Ac:Tc open 0.30
Villain: HJ (15.28) 3-bet to .78
Hero: call
Pot: 1.71

:8d:2c:Qs

Hero: (8.82) check
Villain: (14.50) .50
Hero: call
pot: 2.71

:8d:2c:Qs:3c

Hero: (8.32) check
Villian: (14) 1.35
Hero: calls (this where I got lost, even though it was a card I was looking for - learning that I need to be a bit more sticky in some spots, but didn't really have a plan here. Should I donk? Check raise? Pot odds weren't there for calling not sure I can get paid if the other club hits, but I couldn't fold and don't think I can make any bluffs that get him off any pairs)
Pot: 5.41

:8d:2c:Qs:3c:8H:

Hero(6.97) Check
Villain: (12.65) 2.50
Hero: slinks away with tail between legs.

Preflop could be a fold, but I don't mind the call as the 3bet sizing is really small. You'll need to outplay your opponent from time to time, though.
Flop is standard.
Turn can be a x/c or a x/r, depending on your reads.
As played, river is a x/f.

Anyway, this hand shows perfectly why playing OOP as a 3bet caller is so difficult.

Calling pre, while questionable, is better here than other spots because of the sizing.

I'm not a big fan of flatting the flop--you're not controlling the flop and you don't have anything but backdoor equity.

Donking T is bad because there isn't anything you're credibly repping other than the FD.

Calling T is not much better because you're getting about 25% and your equity is ~19.5%. Hitting a bdfd probably has more implied odds than the front-door, but overall this is a losing play.

Thank you for the reply, just glad I realized my mistake and didn't punt off a stupid bluff.

Thank you for the reply Havick. I came into session looking to play some spots more aggressively, but got there and realized I put my self in a bad spot.

This is just what happens against small sizings. You have to defend a lot of hands. I don’t see anything wrong here. Preflop and flop can be debated but I don’t think folding at the price you’re getting is going to outperform peeling, unless you make big turn mistakes (donking this turn with this hand would count as one so nice that you sb didn’t).
