Was this a good fold? Scary flop and scary line by opponent.

https://www.boomplayer.com/23678434_6DCD2FDC57

Right now I obviously think it was the right move, is there anything I should be thinking about/ realizing? I had no stats on the guy (no hud/zoom).

Sorry if boom player links are discouraged, like I said I don't have a hud/tracker to convert hands and thought that this would be the easy way to show you guys.

Thanks!

Things to think about:

Why are you short stacked? Do you play short stacks well?
If you are short stacked your cbets might not get through as much.

This is an insta-fold...you are UTG+1 and so you have much better hands that can call the raise, namely sets, AK, AQ. Sadly you don't have QJ often in you range so you'll not have the nuts. The best thing to do in these spots is think of your whole range and what you would call with and in particular think what your cut off points are from one action to the next.

The villains raise range most likely consists of Ax plus other flush draws dependent on villain type, TT, QJ, AT. One thing to think about is that you won't be able to re-raise effectively - you don't have QJ

I do always play short stacked! I always (maybe 3 or 4 times in my playing 'career') deposit ~$20 and play 2nl but I can never sustain it. Right now I only have about $7, so just over 3 buy ins. So I play short so that I don't loose an entire buy in if I get aces cracked or anything like that.

Should I still be buying in the games for the full $2 with this **** br?

With that short a br just accept you'll most likely lose it even if you play perfectly. It's to easy to tilt if you are on the verge of losing the rest of your br though.

Maybe play $0.02 990ppl sit and gos and get loads of experience?

I think it was a good fold. Not much else you could do unless you wanted to play like short stackers on my site and shove PF or Flop anytime you raise.

Checking behind on the flop would be a good start in this hand. What are we hoping to achieve by cbetting?

I believe I was trying to use the scare cards to make him fold, thinking that if he had anything less than an A or K he would be folding to a large bet.

First, 8 cents into 14 is not a large bet on a wet board.

Second, you are beating anything less than A or K, so why would you want those hands to fold?

The only hands you really want to fold or charge for the next cards are things like J9, 89, 78 of hearts, which are not super likely calls anyway.

I think this is a pretty good place to check back. You can improve with a jack, pickup a backdoor draw with a heart, and pot control. You want the hands you are beating to take a weak stab, and you want a cheap showdown with everything else.
