2nl AA River bet

Villain is 24/5

Ok, first mistake I made was betting too small on the flop. I can see it know.

What do you think about river line?

Re: 2nl AA River bet

I like check/calling the river if there were any obvious draws out there that bricked and we think villain might stab at it if checked to. In this case though I think villain more likely has some kind of showdown value from the flop on. If, say he had something like AK or K10 then we're losing value when he checks behind on the river. Of course that assumes that villain understands showdown value. In many cases they won't and will bet the river if checked to as a reflex with their top pair type hands. In that case this line is fine too.

Yeah I really have to sort this out. I'm instinctive on the river against a single opponent. "Check to induce, keep range wide..." must miss a big amount of value!

Are you saying a bet fold line is better here?

OP can I ask if you looked left to see if there were more likely callers, light 3 bettors or aggro fish? If so I'd put one more BB in per head for the raise.

I'd raise more pre for being out of position in general 6x. I know it seems counter intuitive with aces when you want action to make it more difficult for players to continue but you're not up against a reg here. And aces 3/4 way isn't desirable plus it builds a bigger pot in the long run (even more if there are fishy looking calling manic 3bet types to my left)

bet more on the flop as you know.

Villain appears to be loose passive judging by the gap between VPIP and PFR. We're either ahead of his one pair hands or losing to his two pair holdings (and outside possibility of a straight). If we resolve to check/call then if they understand showdown value they'll check the first category and bet the second. If we instead bet/fold then we still lose a bet to the hands that beat us but now we pick up a bet versus the one pair hands in the first category.

The above assumes we're not check/folding and that villain won't bet when checked to with his 1 pair hands.
