First time posting a hand review...
Game: 6max cash .25 - .50
Villan TAG in the CO, $42
Hero AQo in the MP, $58

Note:.
Villan is TAG playing super tight smart ABC poker. Plays 1, maybe 2 hands for every 3 orbits. I did see him raise pre-flop with hands like 88 and KJs. Check the flop, turn and river with an over card and c-bet the flop if he hit but check turn and river if the board dynamic changed.

Hero - no pro here just workin on my game one session at a time. Im playing LAG, seeing lots of flops but still playing very good solid poker. I have not been caught bluffing yet, I have been making thin value bets, taking pots down with 90% Cbet rate.

Pre-flop
Hero opens to $1.50 in the MP.
Villan 3bets to $4.50 in the CU.
Hero calls. POT $9.75

I actually thought about folding in this spot. I just felt his pre-flop range was JJ+, AKo,AKs and I was dominated. However, I came to play poker and spots like these will only improve my game. My thought process was I can make this guy fold his AKs/AKo and JJ. I have AQ so I’m blocking AA/QQ so maybe all he has is KK or JJ…

FLOP: 2c7d8s rainbow
Hero check
Villan bet $5.00 Hero calls
POT $19.75

Right off the bet, I though the flop bet was very weak. This weak bet made me think ever more I can get this guy off the hand. My plan is the check fold the turn if he bets and raise the river he checks and it’s a brick. Does this logic made sense?

Turn: 10h (2c7d8s10h)
Check/Check

So, Villan is not a tricky player, I don’t see this check as a trap, maybe pot control. I remove QQ+ from his range. Even tho I am blocking few combinations here, I now think he has AKs/AKo.

River: 6c (2c7d8s10h6c)

I decided that the only way to win this pot is the turn my AQ into bluff. I think player this tight will fold most of his missed hands. Hes a smart player and given 2:1 odds are not enough to call down with Ace high. Also, I thought the board run out was in my favor. My range would be 89s /910s/1010-QQ. I have not been seen bluffing and it’s a perfect value bet, which I have been doing alot with nutted hands, middle and bottom hands.

Hero leads out $19.50 on the river
Villan goes into tank and ???

Would you have bet that large with the nuts? More to the point, has he seen you bet pot sized bets with the top of your range? Have you seen him fold rivers?

Your pre-flop range for the villain seems really tight as well, especially for a 6max game where people tend to 3bet wider (especially at 50nl).

I'd be wary of putting a villain on a specific hand (especially AK which is a bit of a cliche of a hand to put people on).

If villain really is that nitty and he thinks you call wide then that run-out should have helped you more than it helped him (especially given his turn check which kind of caps his range). So yes I think it's certainly worth having a shot here so long as you think you actually have fold equity. I'd make it smaller though. You only need to be successful less with the bluff and it has the added advantage of making it look more like a value bet that you want to get paid with to a lot of villains.

Given reads, fold preflop. Our opponent will likely flat all worse hands, 3bet all hands better, and bluff infrequently.

Check-fold flop. Villain has a strong range and we completely missed the flop. Our range is capped with a small number of strong value hands. Opponent plays TIGHT ABC CAUTIOUS POKER.

Check-fold river. Your thoughts on one street are contradicting your reads on previous streets. Your leveling yourself into putting more money into a spot that you know is ripe with trouble.
