Hello all,

I haven't played poker in a long time and this is one of my first hands back.

I really want to start STUDYING properly. I have never understood how to properly sit away from tables and study and I am looking for some pointers.

For example, I have chosen a very simple hand above. When 'studying' what should I do?

What has proven the most productive for everyone?

When going through hands, what should I be asking myself, what should I be doing etc???

Thanks in advance,

Re: 10NL - How to study?

Join a study group.

Work through elements of the game piece by piece using methods that work well for you.

Find good studying resources. Iíd recommend skyís Matsuhashiís book how to study poker if thatís a struggle, with the grinders manual. Then some good training videos.

This hand ask yourself questions like:

Is my open size ok?
What is villains range?
How does it interact with the board?
Who has range advantage?
Is my cbet size ok?
Why am I I cbetting, should I?
Whatís my relative hand strength?

Repeat for turn.

Should I have triple barrelled?

Then put the hand up and ask questions about parts youíre unsure about, donít post results and try and give any villain stats or reads you have.

Find a way (I use flopzilla) to go through the hand and check equities, ranges.

As for the hand itís an obvious open. I think we can size down though. Give our pretty wide cut of range a better price.

I can go either way on this flop I think. I donít mind checking back sometimes. But betting the bdnfd on a dry board canít be bad. And is probably optimal. We should have range advantage. So I donít mind a range bet but Iíd still bet slightly bigger.

The turn is a great card for us. Iíd polarise more with our extra equity now, bet bigger.

I donít mind this hand as a triple. After the turn call I think itís unlikely to win at sd and we block KQ. Bluff targets are hands like TT. If villain didnít 3B hands like KQ then theyíre never folding. Our turn bet is iffy though so not sure about bluffing.
