The very first "no laughing" game was at a Hot Spring Inn and was played by Matsumoto, Endo, Tanaka, and Yamasaki. Hamada was there as a guy in charge behind the scenese and occcassionally intereacted with the players. Unlike the games which followed, the punishment for laughing this time was to have a blow dart shot into your ass.

Here's so more low key material.

In the "Kiki" series, the cast tries to identify a specific brand of some food/drink from about twenty canidates. If they are succesful, they get some reward. If they're wrong, they get painfully punished.

The "Absolutely Tasty" series has the cast cooking and trying to create an original taste to popular Japanese foods. Sometimes, the ideas are genuinely good. Other times, they are intentionally outrageous. In the links below, the cast makes taiyaki- a fish shaped cake normally filled with bean paste, custard, chocolate, or cheese.

After a brief vacation, our translator has completed the Hospital Batsu series. Sadly, that means there will be no more videos from this excellent batsu game.

All the No Laughing Batsu games aired on New Year's Eve in Japan. The Police Station game aired 12/31/06. Here are the dates of all of them and the players for some perspective.

New Material

The Matsumot Challenge series is one in which the cast helps Masumoto achieve physical accomplishments which he otherwise couldn't. In the the high jump series, Matsumoto is helped to break the world record in the high jump. The hypnotism doesn't quite fit the series since it's not a physical challenge, but the format is the same.

Often, the five main cast members of the show team up in a competition against five other comedians. Here are two of them. Neither of them have subs, but subs are not needed. In the first game, the cast members need to endure a tickling squad as long as possible. In the second game, they have to endure a spinning chair as long as possible and then sprint across a field to push a button.

Here's a much older segment. Yamasaki, Hamada, and Matsumoto try to order ice coffee by using words that sound progressively less like "ice coffee". I think this humor is really Japanese in the way it gets it laughs from how words sound the same.
