Holy **** dude, unless you tracked it down thats actually crazy amazing you can remember what Doom 1 map that is from top down. Took me a second looking at the top down view to remember the first person view and that the one rooms ceilings move and the exit is in that upper left side area. Its a super dark area with a bunch of pinkys and sarges iirc.

Nah, I've played the game for 16 years or so. I do demos for the community every now and then.

Still playing after 16 years? I should probably fire it up again too. See how much I can recall.

Of course its no longer the original engine, its been improved significantly I know that.

Thats a crazy number of linedefs in that map. BSP'n it for visplanes and stuff (dear god my brain) probably would take a week on a system 10 years old. But it could probably be multi-threaded these days and be done in no time.

Of course. It's the first true 3D (sorta) FPS game and also the first computer game I've ever played.
It might not be as pretty or advanced as the games these days, but man is it cool and retro.

It certainly wouldn't be fun to play the same stuff over and over again.
That's why there are PWADs and demo recording and deathmatching and mapping etc. etc. It's the community that keeps this game alive imo.


Obviously source ports and limit-removal are what makes it possible for maps like that to exist. Even with the decade-and-a-half old game engine a map like that would slow some older computers - that would still play the vanilla Doom just fine - to a crawl.

Ah well, I'm just ranting now.
