Thats a crazy number of linedefs in that map. BSP'n it for visplanes and stuff (dear god my brain) probably would take a week on a system 10 years old. But it could probably be multi-threaded these days and be done in no time.
Of course. It's the first true 3D (sorta) FPS game and also the first computer game I've ever played.
It might not be as pretty or advanced as the games these days, but man is it cool and retro.
It certainly wouldn't be fun to play the same stuff over and over again.
That's why there are PWADs and demo recording and deathmatching and mapping etc. etc. It's the community that keeps this game alive imo.
Obviously source ports and limit-removal are what makes it possible for maps like that to exist. Even with the decade-and-a-half old game engine a map like that would slow some older computers - that would still play the vanilla Doom just fine - to a crawl.
Ah well, I'm just ranting now.
