Some of the insane things people were claiming it said was great. Like one guy opened it in a hex editor or whatever using a private home server. He flipped out because he saw the number 1270000000.

Why? Because his connection to the server (his own pc) was via IP address 127.0.0.1.

AND THOSE ARE THE EXACT SAME NUMBERS SOMEHOW!

Hey do any of you guys read WOW books? I have a friend that reads them and magic the gathering books. Having never ever ever played WOW, it seems very very weird, and geeky to me. I can understand playing the game, but reading WOW novels? Wowed out imo.

I don't get the stuff with the screen shots. Is it common to take a lot of screenshots in WOW or something? Or do they mean shots of single frames during your game play?

You can't run a private WOW server????

According to reports, these custom marks include user IDs, the time the in-game image was captured, and the IP address of the local World of Warcraft server. Why? Possibly to track down users that are violating Blizzard's Terms of Service like hacking the game or running a private server.

Same people that read the quest text I'm sure. Some people really love the immersion into the warcraft universe. It's geeky I guess, but I can't really see it being any more geeky then reading Star Wars books.

Quite common. I almost always forget there's a screenshot folder in the install directory tho and just paste into paint when id need a SS.

But the story goes that as of the Burning Crusade patch where they added screen shot capabilities into the game, they inserted code without people agreeing to it that puts watermarks in screenshots the game generates, but somehow it's only for any quality of SS under 10 (you can change quality in game with a command).

How someone "found out?" A crazy process of screwing with the jpgs and repeatedly distorting them until this, uh, "code" came to light.

Some people think it's just jpg artifacting brought about through the manipulation process, which might explain why the highest quality doesn't do it, but I'm sure blizzard has a nefarious reason for only making their software kick out watermarks on some image qualities.

Lets not turn this into the musician neighbor thread, but yes, some companies don't like it when you break copyright law and steal their product.

It was weird to me because I know lots of people run counter strike servers, and stuff like that.

... I'm trying to think of other popular online games that people play and run private servers for, but I'm at a loss

Well it's an entirely different kind of game than CS or other FPSers. Being subscription based and all it's kind of a requirement to connect to their servers to access the content, whereas games like CS give you all the maps you need and don't charge you anything since you play connected to other people's servers/pcs.

FWIW I've read a good majority of the wow books not all, but most..
Alot fo the nightelf **** didn't interest me at all, so it was mostly Horde or Dragon based books. I didn't read the most recent one either just 0 interest in the weeping **** called Jaina finally getting enough sand kicked in her snatch to do something only to (likely) get beaten down again.

I know absolutely nothing about lore

Also, lol @ the guy last night that showed up 20 minutes late for raid, and then was confused/angry when we told him we weren't raiding because we didn't have enough people.. Maybe try being online at the start time if you want to raid?

I always wanted to learn a bit more about the Emerald Dream and all that, but aside from that nelf lore is pretty meh. Really loved the lore aspects of WC3/FT though, what with the Lich King and all.

Also, all the Alliance making the orcs slaves. **** the alliance.

I bought the book about Malfurion Stormrage, but it did not hold my interest at all. I should have known better, because I've never cared much for Night Elves, and I don't think I'd want to level a Druid even if there were enough action bars to where it didn't play hell with my Bartender/Naga setup. Rogue is the only class that I've leveled less than Druid.

I'd probably like the one that delves in to the Arthas storyline but ultimately I'd rather just play the game instead of reading about it.

BT just needs like one setting to make it work seamlessly with shapeshifter/rogue bars. Ain't too bad. The thing that sucks for rogues is (sub rogues at least), is the shadow dance cd where you get your stealth bar. If you have it separately I guess it wouldn't be bad, but if you don't have it set up that way you lose your main keys.
