As awesome as Hyrule Warriors was/is, it definitely had that grinding feel to it. Eventually I'll just care about finishing the game. It's rare to find one now where I really care about 100% completion. Which is funny, because when I was a teenager, that's what mattered to me. Maybe I'm too old now (30)! Ha.

In the humble bundle, can you give out codes for games you already have? I've got bit.trip.runner2 already (great game)

That's exactly what you have to do though, it's not just clothing. Grind to see more modes, maps and weapons. It's a lot of fun but you're still doing the same thing over and over to see/play/unlock more of the game.

If you don't maximise your clothing and perks etc then you're going to get dominated at ranked matches and when they add payload. If you're cool with just playing turf war then I guess you'll be fine with whatever build though.

I thought maps were universal and just rotated every 2 hours

What maps do you have to unlock?

What modes do you have to unlock other than "ranked" for which they want you to first play the 20-30 matches to get to level 10 so you understand how to play before playing ranked?

My bad, I thought the new map was for ranked only.

I still stand by my point that the game is very grindy. The system they have rewards everyone regardless of skill. Rather than having something like "get X kills in one round" or "splat a X percentage in one round" to unlock things individually, they opted for currency system where playing better gets you unlocks slightly faster. It's very much like a F2P game where it rewards you in small amounts for doing the same thing over and over instead of offering objectives that actually require you to get better at the game.

It's not a bad thing and I don't really mind it but the result is that the game becomes much more of a grind while getting the build you want rather than a challenge. Seeing someone in some high ranked gear doesn't necessarily mean they're a good player, it just means they have played a lot. It causes unlocks to lose a sense of accomplishment.

I guess it's "grindy" if you want it to be grindy...otherwise you just play for fun and automatically unlock everything easily by playing the game you set out to play...if your mindset and goal isn't to play the game but rather to unlock everything, then you make it "grindy" in your own mind

I'll get my sense of accomplishment from rated games and my ranking in them, not from unlocks

Who cares about "get x kills in a round" in unrated games where you may be playing complete noobs?

I've had games where we got >90% of the field covered but that is more them being horrible than us being awesome

If my team covers >90% in a rated match, I'd feel more pride in that

To me, grindy means you are doing things solely for the purpose of unlocking things or progressing in the game (farming for gold, walking back and forth on two screens in Zelda to kill enemies to get enough rupees to get an item, FarmVille, adventure capitalist, Simpsons tapped out, etc)

Perhaps we just have very different definitions or perhaps my goal of playing the game and winning rounds is different from your goal of unlocking everything

Don't get me wrong, I love the game but all I'm saying is it's a time = progression system. My goal is the same as yours, to have fun. Just because the progression is a grind it doesn't mean it's not fun. I originally pointed it out because if you want to build a loadout tailored to how you play, it's going to be a grind because you're going to have to put in a lot of hours. That's not a bad thing if you have the time but a lot of people don't. That's the side effect of having a time = progression vs skill = progression system. A lot of people are turned off by that kind of thing so I was putting out the warning. FWIW I don't think the other method would fit with the style and atmosphere of the game anyway.

Even though I prefer the ranked mode, I get more sense of accomplishment being the top scorer in regular matches rather than winning in ranked games where nothing you do individually is tracked. You could go on a streak of getting bad team mates and drop a rating even though you're playing well. It's all good when you win and you obviously know the rounds when you dominate but it would be nice to have it confirmed.

I haven't played ranked yet; that sucks that they don't track individual contribution in ranked

The game mode is great but the way you level up is kind of bizarre. You start with a C- rank. If your team wins then everyone on the team gets the same amount of PP and your rank goes up. If you lose then no one gets any PP and your rank goes down. At the end of the round it displays your kills and deaths but they don't count towards anything. It doesn't display your points or how much area you covered. It's completely team based which kind of defeats the purpose of an individual rank. I'll still play it but I don't really care what my rank is because of how it's setup.

The guy that hacked the Wii has apparently hacked the Wii U as well and is now playing as Ryu on twitch. He said he hacked the Wii U a while ago and would never release it but I guess this is proof he really did it.

I will be getting a WiiU this year most likely.

Anybody got any game recommendations, other than the usual Zelda and Mario games? (the main reason why i'll be buying one).

Thanks.

Any first party Nintendo game. Pretty much all I own, save for 007 Legends (which sucks, but I'm a Bond fan).

Top non-Zelda/Mario (which are all must own, imo) games:

-DKC: TF
-Super Smash Bros
-Bayonetta 2 (also comes with the first one)
-Splatoon
-Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
-Pikmin 3

You can also play Wii games on the Wii U, so I'd recommend checking out some older games too (like 30, too many to list).

I got Yoshi. It starts off really slow and easy but the difficulty picks up and some of the later level designs are really cool. It's a great to chill to but there isn't that much content. Girls love it though. My gf played the majority of it and my friends gf beat it in like 3 days. The amiibo is awesome, I couldn't resist.

I recommend oz******** since you're in Aus. You'll end up saving $10 to $20 on each game.

If you want any Wii selections, give me an idea of what you like and I'll be all over it. I don't own Wii U, so I can't help you there.

Yeah I'm definitely excited about the new Yoshi one. Kirby's Epic Yarn was awesome for Wii, hope it's like that.

It's not really like Epic Yarn apart from being a platformer and sharing a similar theme. It plays like Yoshi's Island on the SNES.
