I love how they worked on so many big issues and did all this wonderful stuff but:

1) XCOM 1 was weird about which enemies were immune to the arc thrower, XCOM2 steps that up by providing straight up NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER about skulljacking/skullmining.

2) They still don't tell you the effects of a given piece of equipment until you buy it, the ingame documentation is still trash(which is weird because Long War improved that a lot and they stole a ton of other stuff from Long War).

These aren't real serious problems and I want to make clear that I've played 10 hours of the game so far(despite working yesterday and going out yesterday night) and it's ****ing amazing, but for a game built around Iron Man playing this **** are really simple unforced errors.
There's also as far as I can tell no tooltips for the various effects you're suffering and no way of accessing your character sheet in missions (please tell me if I'm wrong). My guy has two intersecting red diamonds around him soooo that seems bad but I don't know why.

Some(but not all) of that stuff is in the lower righthand corner of the screen, the various icons. But the old F1 screen that put it all together is gone for no obvious reason(it's not like F1 now does something else, it's just gone). You can also sometimes figure out what a buff/debuff is doing by clicking the expanding tabs of a shot attempt(why are those click to expand? Why aren't they just, always out there?)

The turn timers are the best. Can't believe people are complaining about them they make the game so much more exciting.

Legend difficulty in this game is really ****ing hard. Just had a retaliation where I just managed to complete objective with 1 guy on 1hp left. Guy aced a 40% crit on a viper and then 5% insta-kill weapon mod paid of big time since it was the only way I'd be able to kill the faceless that spawned. I wonder if you can kite it infinitely until it trigger, never got to try it out since it triggered on first hit.
If I had lost that mission my run would probably have been over. My 2 earlier legend games ended rather early by getting my troops grenaded while on a roof. The second time it was 2 snipers with squad-sight so thought they'd be safe since rather far from the action. Was wrong though, first mission with a enemy mech and that ****er beelined to them and blew them up. I'm really paranoid about using roofs since then.

The Faceless were a good idea in theory but in practice they sort of make retaliation missions like any other "kill all bad guys" missions, since the best strategy for them seems to be going hard at the mobs and ignoring the civilians(to avoid triggering a Faceless).

I like the way that the civilians all have names you get to see when they get killed. Faceless do need to be tweaked somehow; maybe if you trigger them they take an extra turn to switch but will switch and charge in certain instances, or something. Also, the aliens focus on you and not civilians; in long war they were right bastards and would just ignore you to mow down civilians, which would increase terror (there was NO way I think out of a terror mission without terror increasing in LW, it was just a question of damage control afaict)

What are everyone's suggestion before tackling the first black site mossion? Gauss weapons? Armor? Are you waiting until the avatar project reaches max?

I think if you wait till it hits max you are screwed.

Squad size upgrade or two, but not much more than that. It takes a little while after the first one for the plot missions to pick back up so if you wait for the bar to get high you'll be screwed

I like that they responded to the problem of Snipers being OP because one side of their skill tree was just awesome by making BOTH sides of the Sniper skill tree awesome.

Are the bonus skills from the AWC completely random or is there some rhyme or reason as to who gets what?

Seems to be very random. I haven't noticed a patern yet.

And yes, the gunslinger perks are ****ing awesome

I did it with just 4 starting weapons on the 2nd easiest difficulty. I am a tard though and just remembered that there are multiple tabs for purchases so my gear is utter ass still.

LOL the gunslinger perks are maybe a little too awesome, just FYI if you do the "shoot at everything you can see" one when you can see one of the kill/capture VIPs you are totally going to Gun-Kata his punk ass in the dome.

CLASS RANKINGS

1) Sniper. Face Off and the Kill Zone both are ****ing insanely good, and I don't even want to spoil what the colonel skills are, but basically a high end Sniper in XCom2 is even more of an angel of death than they were in XCom1. As a non-spoiler, if you don't have North America make sure you put the better magazine extenders/free reload items on your snipers, because you won't want to have to reload
2) Grenadier
3) Ranger(in the early game Ranger is better than grenadier)
4) Specialist

I like hacking turrets and using them against the enemy, also being able to hack mission objectives/defuse etc with the drone really helps when the timer is tight.

Faceoff with upgraded pistol and burning (thermal?) ammo is awesome.

Aaaaaaaaaaand I died during the tutorial mission.

Apparently Overwatch doesn't mean jack **** if the Aliens slowly walk up on you into a flanking position. It cancels your overwatch and your entire squad gets murdered immediately because the aliens shoot.

Wat? If they walk into your line of sight while you are in overwatch and not concealed, you'll take a shot.

Two of your soldiers die in the tutorial on rails. It's how they welcome you back.

Yes, but when you are concealed and they stumble upon you, your overwatch is negated and the aliens get to take free flanking shots.

I didn't wipe on the actual tutorial, but the one right after, where you get your first squad of 4.

Essentially, I hid behind a vehicle with 3 dudes while a 4th kept the aliens in LOS, but was out of the red zone. The two aliens walked around the side of the vehicle. In a normal circumstance, that would've triggered overwatch, but here they were just like, "Oh, cool, found some dudes" and then BOOM BOOM two dead rookies. My remaining two rookies died shortly thereafter because the lack of concealment meant the rest of the aliens came to join the party.

I'm running a GTX970 and an i5-3570K. I get 60fps on Medium, but it's a joke that I should have to leave it on Medium. If I add any AA, I drop to 40ish fps. The load times are pretty quick, probably less than 30 seconds, but I definitely run into weird glitches where the screen will just go black and hang while the audio keeps going for 15-20 seconds.

I wiped on this too. I barely survived getting to the thing you need to deactivate, then with 2 squad left a bunch more aliens appear and mind control and/or panic my other guys. No chance. Wasn't very fun and haven't tried since, but I'll give it another try at some point. Mind control and panic are the two things I hate dealing with and sounds like that is more prevalent in this game as well.

Yea you missed that you have to fly to the supplies and pick them up.

Game definitely punishes mistakes. I like it that way. Tactical battles require take some understanding of the game systems to do well in.

In relation to the posts above, dont get so close to aliens they can detect you visually in there activity phase. To ambush set up overwatch over there current positions and then attack with one of your squad, as they react to that attack all your overwatches will trigger.

As soon as you see an alien capable of psi attacks, focus fire it. Kill it ASAP.

People wiping early: What level are you playing on? Are you doing iron man for your first run through?

I am playing on an level two and save scumming my first play through. I'll probably bump it up a level and maybe iron man for the next game (iron man if they patch some of the stuff, like aliens clipping through walls and agroing occasionally). This playthrough is all about learning the interface and new mechanics.

On the overwatch thing: you only fire if you are in stealth once you break stealth, so yeah, in some ways it is worse than pre contact overwatch in the original. I am still getting used to the whole stealth thing, it isn't very intuitive and I usually end up just dropping it early and killing everything old school style. Not crazy about the fact that on a lot of missions you still need to mop up.

I had the same issue when I tried it last night. I'm playing on the 2nd difficulty level. To be honest, I wasn't very good at the last game. Had to save scum quite often.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any decent tutorials? Have a brief look last night but didn't find anything particularly insightful.
