In this thread we spend hours using the new soldier customization options to painstakingly build the finest team ever assembled.
And promptly watch them all killed on the first mission.

let us xcom

Lots of people on Reddit: "Game too hard, I cannot just use Overwatch and win. The turn timers kill me. Please someone make a mod to remove turn timers."

Someone in the other thread said that the new turn timers might spice this game up for me. Might be right.

The slow (boring) pace of XCOM EU/EW was what stopped me from replaying it on higher difficulties after beating the game on Normal/Ironman for the first time. The correct way to play was just post up in cover and Overwatch to victory. Run and gun was a surefire way to get squad wiped.

I can see myself raging about point-blank flanking 85% hit chance failures getting dudes killed, though.

I'm going to try to hold out for the Summer Sale on this. My enjoyment of the first XCOM was not at $60 levels.

Debating using day one mods right off the bat. Think I'll save them for the second playthrough to keep it fresh.

Only major complaint so far is the insanely long mission load times. It is taking 4-5 minutes for each mission to load. Once it starts, it is fine except for the LoS issues that plagued the original, but at the least the reviews warned us about that.

regarding LoS, saw this on PCGamer

The LoS indicator will keep you safe
One of XCOM 2 s friendliest new features is the line-of-sight indicator. When moving your soldier s movement cursor around the map, a small crosshair appearing next to an enemy s health bar means you ll be able to see that enemy if you move to the square you re hovering over.

While this has obvious benefits, like ensuring you never again scream WHY CAN T I SEE THAT GUY, there are some advanced ways to use the indicator that will boost your tactical ability. For starters, you can also use it to move in ways where the enemy can t see you—for example, when trying to move without triggering an enemy s overwatch. You re allowed to move one tile inside an enemy s overwatch radius before they ll attack you with reaction fire, so trace out a path that the enemy can t see, using obstructions like walls and pillars to move without being shot at.

Another good use of the indicator is to avoid triggering patrols who ve yet to spot your squad. The Ranger s Phantom perk allows your soldier to remain in stealth when the rest of your squad is revealed, and the standard sight range of an XCOM enemy is 17 tiles. In other words, your Phantom can move ahead and scout out unaware enemies, and your soldiers can use that recon to stay at least 17 tiles away, ensuring those ADVENT or aliens will remain oblivious to your presence.

Damn you, there already aren't enough hours in the day to play all the **** I want to.

Price was up to $39, but I had told myself a 30% steamsale was what I'd wait for. 30% now or later doesn't matter I guess.

I wonder how sites like this work. No stores or employees to pay for, so they just cut margins down to near nothing? How are the big retailers okay with this?

Im not having any game breaking issues on my PC.

Me neither. Loads are a bit slow but no crashes sometimes.

Of course, I've incorporated my family into the game and now it's only a matter of time until they are dead.

No big surprise, my wife is a sharpshooter and I will probably take the majority of the gunslinger branch.

missing sword attacks at point blank range is entirely new kind of tilt!

Load times are "long" (~15-20sec) and the gameplay is bit glitchy, especially in the base/Avenger. Hope they fix that soon.

Liking the game a lot. Pre and post mission loads are prob 20s so no problem for me (pc is good), there have been slight hiccups but nothing too bad. Would be nervous with an older pc tho.

For sword Ranger class you can move 2x and sword in one turn right? Otherwise would be pretty pointless because you leave yourself exposed and by default Ranger has a shotgun anyways for close combat.

When people say long load times how long is long, poster above considers 20s long, I dont consider that remotely long.

What is the consensus on "long"?

I find you get to the point where you say "oh just load already!" and then wait about 5-10 more seconds.

Yeah a lot of the pc master race redditors bitch about performance on everything, omg only 58 FPS better send rape threats to any females on the dev team, so I kind of blew off the bitching...

It's true. All of it. I have a i7 w/ 16 GB of RAM(my GPU is crap, but comfortably above the minimums) and I get <30 FPS on medium options, load times are excruciating, and glitches are so common calling them "glitches" is too charitable.

It's be fairer to say that the game has some screen transitions and cutscenes that involve a lot pop-in and clipping than artistically called for. The loading screens aren't just too long, they also stutter and sometimes your cursor gets lost because you were moving it during a stutter.

Game is obviously still great, so great, but it needs patching bad.

I dont get anything like that.

I do feel like a complete noob when it comes to the geoscape tho.

Why are there green bars appearing under one of the region icons?

I'm getting decent performance on i5, gtx760, 8gb ram
my settings:

Also turned off vsync and framerate smoothing in game and turned on vsync with nvidia control panel

Load times can be 25-30 seconds which is pretty long for an SSD

You mean the one in the center of the continent? It's how many of the regions you have in that continent.

I love how they worked on so many big issues and did all this wonderful stuff but:

1) XCOM 1 was weird about which enemies were immune to the arc thrower, XCOM2 steps that up by providing straight up NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER about skulljacking/skullmining.

2) They still don't tell you the effects of a given piece of equipment until you buy it, the ingame documentation is still trash(which is weird because Long War improved that a lot and they stole a ton of other stuff from Long War).

These aren't real serious problems and I want to make clear that I've played 10 hours of the game so far(despite working yesterday and going out yesterday night) and it's ****ing amazing, but for a game built around Iron Man playing this **** are really simple unforced errors.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700 2.6 GHz or AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core 2.6 GHz
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5770, 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or better

These are the listed minimum requirements, which are incredibly low. Like, all of those products came out before 2010, they aren't much higher than the requirements for Enemy Unknown.

I'd be very interested to hear from someone with that setup as to how performance is.

I've got an AMD quad core 3.8 processor Nvidia gt720 IGB video card and 8 GB RAM, which is near the minimum specs.

I'm running the game on lowest settings and Like I said my only issue is the ~5 minute load and unload times for missions.
