I need some AV help.

I just bought an XBox 360, an Xbox 360 HDMI cable and a new TV (LG 42in 720p, open box, good deal).

So, I plug the 360 into the TV w/ the HDMI cable and it works just fine the first time I play. I may of fiddled with some of the video settings, I'm not sure.

Then, I turn it off, and a few hrs later I plug in a network cable and boot and I don't get any sound/picture in either of my HDMI inputs on my TV.

I can play using the stock AV cable, but I'd really like to get it to work w/ the HDMI cable. I have no idea what I could of done to stop it from working?

Suggestions?

I did see this post but don't have any great ideas, sorry. Is your other cable unplugged while using HDMI? Is there a setting somewhere on the 360 where you need to tell it to output through HDMI or 1080p or whatever?

So I found out something disappointing about XNA. Most everyone who is aware about XNA knows it cost $100 a year for the privilege to develop games on it. The thing I didn't know was you need to pay the annual fee to play the games, or otherwise wait until they come out on XLA and pay for them like any other XLA game. I was really excited about playing user made games, but I don't know if it's worth $100.

This is only to try out ALL the games. The ones released on XLA are the ones that have been tried out and are the most well liked by the devs on XNA. These will probably cost about $5, but it's better than sifting through all the crap for $100/yr IMO.

So I solved my problem by doing this;

"1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.

Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left quadrant light illuminated.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time.
5. The Xbox Dashboard resets the display settings to the default settings, and then automatically restarts the console.

Try that out"

The only thing is it keeps failing when I put in a game, even when I don't change settings. Just frustrating, but whatever. The regular cable workes well enough.

It has pretty bad ratings (5.5) on IGN. The review says if you're a true Lost fan, which I am to a fault, the game should be rented not purchased... which I will probably do over spring break. Hopefully it's as Losterrific as possible.

I have played the hell out of the demo. I'd like to at least try MLB2K before I make a purchase, but it's going to be difficult for it to top what I've seen from The Show.

This topic belongs to 17 years ago. But I just downloaded Super Mario World for Wii Virtual Console. That game is really fun. About a month ago, I downloaded Sonic from Xbox Live Arcade, but once nostalgia novelty wore off, I got bored of it. That's likely going to happen with Super Mario World also (especially now that Super Mario Galaxy finally arrived from Amazon), but I can say that I played Super Mario World a lot longer last night than I have played Sonic since I downloaded that.

Damn, it really has been 17 years since SMW was released...I am feeling really old, I remember playing that in Target, while Wonder Years was on the TVs nearby!

Yeah. I put in 15 years first, but checked on Wikipedia before I posted. 1991 sure was a long time ago.

I had a semi-opposite experience. I never liked Sonic that much, but when I got the Sega Genesis Collection last year I was pretty impressed with the game and kept at it until I finished. If I pick up SMW I'm not sure if I'll like it that much. Part has to do with the fact that Sonic is just a nice linear game with no warping or hidden exits. It annoys me that you can get to the 2nd world of 8 in SMW and then easily find a secret path to the final dungeon.

I still play Sonic 1 and 2 on XBLA quite often and haven't tired of them yet, but SMW is such a great game I really think it holds up over time better than maybe any other game from that period, including Sonic and any other Mario Bros. I prefer Sonic's gameplay to Mario's in general but SMW has so much variety and is also so much longer that it tips the balance squarely in Mario's favour on this one.

That said I will point out that comparing SMW to Sonic 1 or 2 is a bit unfair as SMW is 2D Mario at it's most polished and perfected, and I would personally take Sonic 3/& Knuckles over SMW. Obviously I'm a bit of a Sonic fanboy though.

The Show is getting better reviews across the board than 2K8

This guy does classic video game music in Mario Paint. He doesn't even use Mario Paint Composer. Check it out.

I've played both and I liked 2k8 a lot. Problem was I absolutely loved the Show. I'm picking it up later today.

Edit: I should note though that buying a game with Ryan Howard on the cover instead of Jose Reyes does sting.

Since I'm on a Mario kick, I decided to download Super Mario Bros. 3. Wow, the graphics are bad. I guess I forgot how much of an improvement there was from the 8-bit to the 16-bit generation. No one will say that Super Mario World has great graphics, but they're not bad, even today. But Super Mario 3 really looks like crap. Hardly played it, though, because I'm still playing Super Mario World. Sucks that they don't have the same control scheme though. (B jumps in SMW, but not SM3).

Also played Super Mario Galaxy last night. Not sure I like it. It's the first 3-D platformer I've ever played. And the controls are frustrating at times.
