I would certainly participate. Seems pretty likely that it turns into you fixing code for everyone though.

BTW finally got that ****ing sphere to move in the first tutorial, that was brutal.

I love coding games and am pretty much continuously thinking about what kind of game I'd like to code and what language I'd like to code it in.

I made my first game recently (I've linked to this before: Quantum Cortex), but the art was a nightmare. So much ****ing drawing is required. I don't do art and I suck at art and just want to code. But it's not worth it if you're just making an ASCII game that no one will even try - which is what you're stuck with if you don't do the art. I did Quantum Cortex with basic pixel art (and cutting corners in nearly every conceivable way), but I'm considering looking into some vector art stuff with Inkscape for future prospects. If that's not easy, I probably will never code another game again.

ETA: Oh and sounds too. **** that.

find a meetup to do a game jam and get in with some artists and sound designers imo

also, +1 for a game dev thread. We've had interest for one in the past, but it just never materialized

also also, tried One More Jump. Wife and I both liked it, gave it a 5* rate. Wondering if the main character is obtainable in stuffed animal format

thanks, I appreciate that, ratings and reviews help more than people know. We made 15 plush versions of the character to give out at PAX and now they're super rare collectible pieces of video game history :P

Game jams is a great suggestion and one of the best ways to get your feet wet in a lot of ways. Can't recommend them enough but for a lot of people, their location is going to be a problem. I'm super lucky to be in one of the most active and growing game devs cities. There are are bunch of game jams online though and they're a lot of fun if done with the right people.

edit: I started a thread but wasn't sure what to write so OP is kind of barebones - https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/7.../#post53092580

Oh man, my kids would've loved a One More Jump toy. They frequently borrow my phone to play, especially my 11-year old.

that's so awesome to hear, your kids are awesome. Unfortunately I only have 1 plushy left and he's sitting on my shelf. I've got a bunch of stickers and few badges though so if anyone wants them I'm happy to send them out.

The character is getting a de-make though...

Just had a nearly 3 hour game in Rise of Nations in the campaign. As soon as I complete the scenario the game resets all progress as if I didn't play at all. Well, time to rage-uninstall i guess.

Few hours into (but not actually very far, as I keep dying) ELEX and can definitely see why it's split opinion so much.

Feels like there is a potential for a great game in there so far. Whether the shortfallings is has certainly has overwhelm this, I guess I'll have to find out. First I need to stop getting one-hit by tiny chicken dinosaurs...

Anyone else given it a go?

Wanted to try an iOS Deal or No Deal game so grabbed one that was riddled with ads.

Got $100k after my first few attempts. Randomly ask Giz to pick a briefcase and she one-shot YOLOs the million dollar briefcase.

Time to buy a lottery ticket!

I've been waiting for ages for Forza Horizon 3 to finally go on sale and It'sHappening.gif - randomly checked it yesterday and it's about 50% off if you've got xbox live gold. I didn't, but gold was on sale too so I signed up for a month as it was a dollar or two.

So anyone else who may have been waiting for this to finally get a sale might want to pick it up (windows store ldo).

Without starting a new thread, does anyone have any suggestions for unloading old games and hardware? I have some NES, Genesis, and SNES stuff that I think it’s time to get rid of (not everything of course). There’s a store here that will take trade ins but I doubt the value is good, though they are reselling things for quite a lot ($60 for N64 Smash Bros, $40 for Toejam & Earl). Anyone have experience selling them on eBay or somewhere similar? I also have some 360 games that are probably worth nothing at the moment.

Yea, test all of it and then list each system in a lot on eBay with the games or put on Amazon. If you have some games that are very valuable on their own, keep them separate from the lot. I guess I haven't done this with a game system yet, but I've done it with a bunch of other stuff.

If you're attached to a certain price (don't be) stick with Amazon (or Buy it Now on eBay I guess), but I prefer to just let it go and trust that the ebay market will give you something in the ballpark of a fair price for a 7 day auction. You get rid of your stuff, make a little bit of money, person gets something they want, everyone is happy.

I have no idea how to estimate the shipping beforehand so I'd just make it "free", though you may be losing value there. People probably will bid more on the base price knowing shipping is "free" but it's also possible they'll bid less than what you would have gotten if you charged shipping (but could be the opposite!)

The lowest price on Amazon listings for each console may give you an idea of what to expect.

Again, key imo is to let go of expectations and trust the bidding to give you something close to fair.

EDIT: My mom just sold some of my consoles/games through some online listing site so that's an option too; guy came to the house (obv be careful!). He showed a picture of his own collection and I noticed that on his top shelf was coincidentally my 1994 - Freddy Pharkas, Willy Beamish, Space Quest 1, Police Quest 4, etc.

Yeah, I have TMNT Tournament Fighters for NES complete in box that I want to sell. I doubt I would get more than $200 at a local retail store.

I think ebay sucks for selling anything and it's always my last resort. If you have a decent amount of stuff then you will pay a stupid amount in fees. Selling on facebook is the way to go. There's no doubt there would be multiple buy, sell, swap and retro game groups in your area. People come to your house, give you cash, you don't have to ship anything and you don't pay any fees. Also if you bundle your stuff it will obviously save you time but you'll lose a lot of value.

My suggestion is to go on ebay, see what things are selling for(not listed) and then post on facebook about 10% less.

On topic but if you're into buying retro games and hardware then ebay/amazon are always going to be the most expensive as well. Getting in on facebook groups, forums and private discords/slack channels will get you much better prices. I buy a lot of Jap PS1, Saturn and PCE games and ebay is usually double the price.

The fees on eBay are really killer, I like the idea of Facebook or maybe a resale app like Offer Up, completely forgot about that as an option - I sold an Xbox One S on there for a nice profit about a year ago.

My PS4 Pro arrived a few days late.

Played some Ducktales (NES), damn it's hard (Normal difficulty). And by "hard" I mean you don't breeze through it on the first couple of tries. It's cool to play something where the power-ups and extra lives are actually meaningful and necessary though.

Also some Life is Strange, feels like a mix between a more classic adventure game and the newer Telltale games.

Ducktales was the first real game I ever beat (on Easy, don't know if I ever played on Normal). Earlier this year I thought I was going to have to splurge for a real NES copy of Ducktales 2, so the announcement of the collection was great. Surprised it didn't make more of a splash. Def plan on re-finishing it and Chip & Dale, plus Darkwing Duck and the sequels. TaleSpin we'll see.

Had to re-download and install Borderlands 2 on PS3 just to upload my save for PS4.
