I think you need to have played Brotherhood to fully appreciate the Asscreeds.
For me, the primary joy of the series has been to fool around in an authentic, historic setting among all the events and characters I've read so much about. If you're not into history at all, I can totally see why the games would be boring as ****.
I do agree that the combat system is horrible, and the "parkhour" elements are kinda silly in the way they work, but I've had a ton of fun, particularly in Brotherhood and Black Flag (yarrrr matey).
