Been playing Doom/Doom II on 360 the past few days. Apparently I never played Doom II before and just played Doom I over and over again as none of these levels from Doom II seem familiar.

Also, I love the Super Shotgun, but holy crap are 2 things annoying in Doom II.

1. Cheesy Enimes. The Arch Vile is annoying as all hell. And those dudes that shoot homing missiles at you are annoying as well. They certainly up the difficulty over the Doom I enemies.

2. Level layout/ways to exit. Jesus are some of these ways of getting exits to appear convoluted. It's almost like a puzzle game at times.

That being said, I love me some Doom.

Tricks and Traps might be my favorite map.

Haha, I've been playing II plus assorted WADs a little bit. Download Hell Revealed and let me know what you think of the difficulty of Doom II after level 15 or so.

I think the additions in II are hugely positive, though. The super shotgun is the best weapon in the game and its addition was necessary to balance the addition of revenants/archviles/etc.

What source port are you using?

It has been a long time since I've played I, maybe I'll go back and do that and see how it feels in comparison. The 4th episode of Ultimate Doom is really just spectacular.

Source port? Not sure what that means, but I'm playing it on Xbox 360.

I prefer the Plasma Rifle to the Super Shotgun, but its easily #2 to me.

PC Gamer put out an article listing most of the interesting looking games scheduled to come out this year. I still have about 100 games in my backlog, but there are a few I'll make room for. What're people looking forward to?

Rockstar, Ubisoft and EA have some cool games coming out like The Division, Watch Dogs, GTA V, Mirror's Edge 2, Star Wars Battlefront and Beyond Good and Evil 2. We'll see if 2014 is the year they finally realize their DRM and required storefront launchers are only hurting them, but there are more than enough games coming out from companies that don't treat their customers like criminals that I'm not worried about missing any of them. Except for Beyond Good and Evil 2... bastards. Looking over the list then, I'm most looking forward to

Star Citizen, Transistor, Fortnite, Broken Age, Walking Dead: Season Two, The Wolf Among Us, Kentucky Route Zero, DayZ, Starbound, Super Hot, Everquest Next, Quadrilateral Cowboy, Frozen Endzone, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, The Magical Realms of Tir NA NoG: Escape from Necron 7, Revenge of Cuchulainn - Chapter 2 of the Hoopz Barkley SaGa (!), Dark Souls 2, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Torment: Tides of Numenera and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth aren't on their list which is odd, but definitely looking forward to those.

Max Max, Lords of the Fallen, The Stomping Land, Thief, Game of Thrones, Armikrog, The Witness, Volume, Witcher 3, Liege, Cube World, Divinity: Original Sin, Mew Genics, and Massive Chalice.

you mean gta vi or are they doing a pc version?

It hasn't been officially announced, though both nVidia and Amazon goofed on separate occasions referring to a Q1 PC release date. And I don't know if we ever saw any figures on how IV did on the PC, but I think opening week a conservative estimate would be 1.5 million units sold at $60 and they'd be crazy not to just for that. And Rockstar has a good idea of how much long term profit there is on the PC compared to consoles with their games years after release. Bully, Max Payne 3 and GTA IV still seem to do well whenever there's a sale.

weevil you should make that first post you did into a thread called most anticipated games of 2014. a lot of great stuff in there that's probably going to get lost in this thread.

Star Citizen is in there, but rather strangely, they've put it in the 'action' category along with Elite: Dangerous (while Limit Theory is in the 'Exploration and survival' category) Starbound is also in 'EaS'. I'm sure I saw Dark souls 2 somewhere in there also.

Kinda dumb to split the games into those categories - it makes it hard to get a good overview of the games, but 14 pages make for more clicks than 1 of course.

I hope Fortnite isn't a letdown.

The only game ive played over the past 2.5 ish years has been gta 5 but ive just bought a new pc to start getting back into gaming. Anyone feel like throwing a brief, cant-miss-games-of-last-30-months list out there? I like all genres

Lot of good cheap indie games to try out like Bastion, Binding of Isaac, Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, Fez, Frozen Synapse, FTL, Gone Home, Guacamelee, Gunpoint, Hotline Miami, Mark of the Ninja, Papers Please, Spelunky, The Stanley Parable, Thomas Was Alone.

From traditional publishers I haven't been impressed with much. Batman Arkham City if you missed that, Dark Souls, The Walking Dead from Telltale, Dishonored, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, RAGE, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Bioshock is really good too. Skyrim is fun but gets a bit repetitive. Starcraft 2, League of Legends is free and great. Try checking out www.humblebundle.com to get some stuff in your library for cheap.

Bioshock: Infinite got reamed by everybody except the mainstream press.

I really liked Infinite, shrug. But more of a GOAT rental, than pay full price for it.

anyone have any fun multiplayer browser games? been playing tagpro and curve fever, looking for something else.

I always heard people raving about the Contra series, and I never understood how i could have missed such an awesome series, as I had a ton of games. Every time i spoke about the robot heroes, someone always said "eh you should play contra", so I assumed they were different games.

Now it hit me like a brick.

I had Contra 3 all along.

Probably wikipedia will answer it for you. Looks like the game you are describing is the PAL version of Contra.

Just to add to the confusion I first played this series in the UK under its Japanese name Grizor. I don't know why they chose to rename it in the US or why they chose a name already taken by a ruthless paramilitary group.

Oh and my guess on the PAL name Germany had some very strict laws on violent video games. Probably Cheaper to make one version for all Europe then a special one for Germany.

I think playing the Mass Effect series has to be high on your list. ME2 is in my top 5 all time favorite games.

Skyrim needs a playthrough by every person who calls them self a gamer.

Those are the only 2 games that I'd say you absolutely must have played. The rest of the games really depend on your interests. There have been some great RPGs/Strategy games but those might not be your thing.

Dark souls is the game you absolutely cannot miss. Its a legit GOAT game.
Skyrim will be forgotten as soon as Bethesda releases the same game but with even more polished graphics.

Mass effect 1 and 2 are amazing games sure but 3 ruins so much.
