I'm not the biggest fan of roguelikes, but I've been massively enjoying FTL. It is a space adventure roguelike with a ton of replayability. It's only 8.99 on Steam right now and I've already got 20-30 hours out of the game in like 4 days. There are some Let's Plays of it on YouTube if you aren't sure, but anyone that is a fan of the genre will love it.

FTL is really awesome ( and really really hard to finish ).

What happens when a creature with a nice aura of kindness stumbles upon your fort?

It must be pretty crazy to drop your frames per second down to 86

Amazon just sent me an e-mail to helpfully let me know that Doom 3 BFG Edition, which is optimized for consoles and includes a Lost Mission, will be out on October 16 for the low low price of FORTY DOLLARS!

Jesus christ, Doom 3 wasn't a great game when it came out (and I say this as a lifelong id Software fanboy), and you want to re-release it 8 years later for an absurdly steep price (relative to the kind of release this is) like it's part of the pantheon of FPS games? smh.

This might be interesting for some. Recommended reading for anyone that owns oldschool consoles imo

Did blowing into NES games help?

Also just bought the Drakensang platinum pack today. Some people may remember me highly recommending the Realms of Arcadia games and I've meant to buy this "new" (2008) release for sometime now.

That's hilarious. Definitely remember doing that.

I remember for FF2 there is a part where you have to land the airship on top of an exact spot to get to this town, everything else surrounding the town is forest. When I had to go there my game had a problem and the airship appeared at the far left of the screen and the animation for the airship going down would go off the screen to the right. The flying animation was so off it was impossible to see where I was or trying to land. Took me about a half hour but I finally powered through and landed so I could continue on.

Man what a massive disappointment the wii ended up being eh? There's really only about 5 or 6 games worth buying imo, and that's stretching it. Super mario galaxy and Super smash bros are great... what else is there that makes the system worth it?

On another note, any turn based strategy fans want to play Heroes of might and magic 3? It's a blast!

Metroid Prime 3 was amazing (one of the best games of the current video game generation imo), Mario Strikers was pretty fun.

Well, don't forget Galaxy 2. Wii Sports. The Zelda games. Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story are supposed to be great JRPGs that actually bring something fresh to that stale genre. Donkey Kong Country Returns and Punch-Out speak for themselves.

There are several games that are just ports, but with the motion controls are arguably the "definitive" versions. Okami, Resident Evil 4, Bully, The Godfather.

Epic Mickey if you're into Disney. Zack & Wiki if you're into adventure/puzzle games. De Blob if you're into 3D platformers.

If you're a hardcore gamer, having a Wii is arguably more important than having a 360. What I mean is, it's a given that you need to have a PS3 because of quite a few must-play exclusives. But other than two Halo games and I guess Gears, 360 has nothing of great worth. The Wii has more must-play exclusives and many more "solid" exclusives.

I dunno if I'd go that far. I have like a billion games on 360 (dunno how many are exclusives w/o checking, I prefer 360 for games on both 360/PS3) and...6? on Wii.

Did Oblivion ever come out on PS3? It's old but I remember that being one of the first 360 games I got and it was absolutely a must-play. General point being that I think you can go deeper than Halo/Gears for games you should want to play on 360, especially if the competition you're pitting it against is stuff like Zack & Wiki (like, counterpoint: Condemned 1, 360 exclusive, and if it was on Wii you'd probably list it above as a pretty good horror game you couldn't play on any other platform).

Perhaps this is true on all of the merely "good" exclusives for both systems (although I think the Wii list would win out). But the Metroids, Zeldas, and Galaxy games far outshine Halo and Gears as far as "unique must-play games" go.

Oblivion is on PS3.

I have found no shortage of fun video games on the Wii to consume my time since I got one in early 2007. Then again I maybe get to play 10 hours a week max, so a game like Okami and my quest to get every item takes me 2.5 months to get through. I still have quite the backlog to get through for Wii/Gamecube, some first time playing and some that I haven't played in 5+ years and want to replay.

As a PC gamer if I had to get one system today it would be close between the Wii and the PS3. There isn't a single exclusive game on the 360 that I want to play.

Sadly I own a 360

The only games I want to play on 360 some day are Banjo-Kazooie and Deadly Premonition. There's also the XBLA game Shadow Complex (Metroidvania) and maybe another couple of XBLA exclusives.

Mass Effect 1 was on the list because I dislike PC gaming, but now PS3 is getting a trilogy collection.

Crackdown
Earth Defense Force 2017
Dead Rising
Geometry Wars
Forza
Project Gotham Racing
Shadow Complex
Fables
Kameo
Ace Combat 6
Katamari
Viva Pinata
Trials HD/evolution
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Ninety Nine Nights
Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Culdcept Saga

That's just off the top of my head from my collection and not including 'cross platform' games that are practically unplayable on the PS3 like Bayonetta. That's also not including 360/PC console exclusives like The Witcher 2. Saying the 360 is Halo and Gears is like saying the PSX was Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo. Great games in their own right but the real fun to be had wasn't and isn't necessarily with just the most advertised titles. For instance I'm not a huge fan of shooters but Earth Defense Force 2017, in spite of its graphics, is absolutely in the top 3 for me as far as fun goes this generation. Get a friend, get the game and you won't sleep because... it's.. it's.. it's... ACCIIIID!!!

Big sale of Activision games on GOG.com. If you're a fan of point-and-click adventure games, you need to buy Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers for $2.39. Just play the first game day or two even if you don't want to commit to the whole game. Should be doable without help.

Also is IMO the best voiced game ever. The narrator may grate on you at first but you'll grow to adore her.

Speaking of point and click games; I'm normally not a fan, but I just finished The Walking Dead episodes 1-3 and they were fantastic. I've never had to make so many terrible choices and felt so bad about them afterwards. I can't wait to go back and play them a 2nd time and make all the other terrible decisions that I didn't get to make the first time and see how that changes things.

Each episode is only 2-3 hours each, so you can play them fast. There is probably 20 hours of total game play though if you make different decisions. Anyone that is a fan of point and clicks or the zombie genre should look into them.
