Thanks. I've decided to take the long road and start with a book about Turing and then I'll do Hackers I think.

Try to get your hands on the newest version of Hackers...within the last couple of years it was updated (original content unchanged AFAIK, but a new chapter or two added with "where are they now" type stuff). Although of course there is some charm in holding the original 25 year old volume...

I have never played Banjo Kazooie or Tooie. Should I buy them used on N64 or just grab them on XBox?

It really blows that Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and DK64 arent available on Wii VC because Rare is now Microsoft owned...and I dont own an Xbox. I don't have the BK carts anymore but they are good games. Picking them up on 64 will be a more authentic experience if thats something you care about, but if you get the Xbox downloadable ones you will get to use a better controller and it will look nicer on an HDTV, so its kinda up to you.

Banjo-Kazooie is my favorite game of all time. Banjo-Tooie was decent, but felt too long and convoluted for me.

Snap grab B-K if you like platformers and had any fun with Mario 64.

Yeah I loved M64 as well as DK64, so they have both been on my to-play list forever. I have never bought anything on the Xbox arcade so just wondering if graphics are updated or anything.

I am leaning toward Xbox if only for the wireless controller

I'm pretty sure the graphics are the same, but if you're playing on a big TV the game will look a little better since your Xbox can output it thought HDMI, as opposed to the 64's regular video cables (fine on a normal TV but terrible on a big HDTV), thats all. Also the downloadable one might be in widescreen too, but idk for sure. I'm not familiar Xbox arcade.

The graphics are not the same, they're slightly enhanced and are in widescreen and HD.

I'd play it on Xbox unless you have a convenient N64 setup on an old-fashioned TV.

Not sure if I remember correctly, but in the xbox version of B-K, the notes only have to be picked up once, and remain picked up. Which took away one of the more fun and difficult parts of the game, which was collecting all 100 notes without dying on each level. Rusty Bucket Bay just wouldn't be the same.

Anyone have any recommendations (with link plz) for PC speakers?

Preferably something with a subwoofer. -- trying to listen to something with bass on it right now and my old Sony speakers sound like crap.

Also, something in a reasonable price range.

Need to know ASAP. Thanks!

Do you have them or what?

EDIT: After reading reviews, those don't sound very promising.

It's like the highest rated logitech speaker set with a more-than-adequate subwoofer. What exactly do you want?

Edit: You asked for a reasonable price, right? You won't find anything at a reasonable price with audiofile acceptable quality.
Edit2: I have an older, but similar set of speakers that I'm really happy with so...

I'm kind of liking these: http://www.amazon.com/Cyber-Acoustic...903688&sr=1-11. I like the look of the speakers and they are 5.1.

I have an old Logitech 5.1 system, they finally started crapping out maybe a year ago after several years but they were very good until then.

I'm not sure what your "reasonable" range is, but I've got the Bose Companion 5 set up and it's been great to me for 3.5 years now. Price is $360 on both Newegg and Amazon. Solid reviews across the board and the "bad reviews" are mostly of people complaining about something they could easily change in their Windows settings. I've personally used them on 3 different computers and through 2 moves and they've worked perfectly immediately after plugging them in.

Amazon Link with my referral code. Just search Bose Companion 5 if you don't want to give me credit for the referral.

$360 is quite steep. I was thinking <$100.

I think I'm going to go with the Cyber Acoustic set that I linked from Amazon. The ones from NewEgg had a lot of bad reviews.

I don't need a home theater, just something that is worth the price.

Thanks for the help!

Seems like the humming on the Logitechs are pretty common, and some people have trouble with the speakers not even working when they first got them. That's all I'm worried about.

Now I don't know if I made the right decision. haha I still have time to change my mind.

Are there any others besides those two?

EDIT: Ok, I found those Logitech speakers on Amazon for cheaper and 2 people made good reviews for them - one with a video review. I'm going to go with them.

I'm sure there are. Go to newegg and look for speakers with a reasonable subwoofer. I just linked you to logitech because I've owned 3 sets in my lifetime and they all have been great.

I edited my post so not sure if you saw it. I'm just gonna go with those Logitech speakers. I really don't have any use for 5 speakers for my PC. haha

Wooo, I beat Contra today. Quite a hard game, but seemingly a lot easier to make significant progress after playing though Super Meat Boy. My roommate was giving me a hard time for having never reached the boss of level 7(out of 8). Beat the game the next try....
