Any European want a free Far Cry New Dawn download code? I did a dumb and bought one from cdkeys without checking the region and can't activate it from the US. It's not even worth the hassle to sell it on ebay. PM me if interested

Someone made a raytraced Quake 2 not long ago, and now teamed up with Nvidia to make a full RTX version, will be on github eventually - looks amazing!

A few major questions.

1) in the universe of AAA games making multi-billions of dollars, how lucrative will the licensing deals be that allow you to access these games without buying a physical copy or will a license purchase be neccesary for each game you want to stream?

2) in the universe of data caps, how much data will streaming a game for 100 hours in a month at 4K resolution actually take?

Surprised there's not more discussion of the Google thing, seems like a real game-changer. I had not thought about all the benefits such a system could have:
- start playing instantly w/ no downloads
- no hardware investment (unless you want their controller, but you can use existing ones)
- hacking/cheating eliminated from multiplayer gaming overnight
- scale/latency issues of massive multiplayer gaming solved (all clients running in Google data centers)

The only downside is input lag, if it exists. They seem pretty confident people won't think it's a problem.

It has potential. There are other downsides:

- Perpetual rental / no ownership of games / the ultimate DRM
- Lag is unavoidable. Not a big deal for Assassin's Creed Origins. Unacceptable for fighting games
- No mods
- Compression artefacts / stream glitches. Google were unable to deliver even this keynote without 3-4 obvious issues.
- Quite a significant increase of centralization

These drawbacks are by no means exclusive to Google service, for the most part though.

Regarding the above:
- I already start playing w/ no downloads the vast majority of the time. I'll be playing Sekiro at 00:01am this Friday.
- I like investing in hardware! (most of the time)
- hacking / cheating remains to be seen, but yes much harder. Already not a huge issue with traditional consoles a lot of the time.
- scale/latency is unchanged, A much shorter wire between client and server yes, but now there's a much longer wire between the controller and the console, and between the console and TV. It will simplify a lot of sync/netcode if "same datacenter" is a lock, granted. But now your problem is input lag and display lag.

I'd have been way happier if they also sold the 10.7 TF Stadia boxes to run direct to a 4K TV at home, which is the approach Sony and Microsoft will surely be taking as this next "streaming future" gen unfolds. I don't count either of them out yet, though scenes in the MS offices may somewhat resemble thisisfinedog.gif last night.

Also, some very important information remains to be seen.
- Stadia has no games?
- How much does this cost, and in what form?

That said I'll certainly be following and will try it likely at the first opportunity.

Another benefit is even more tons of serious person-hours on Debian, AMDGPU and Vulkan

Probably because this is not a brand new concept. We've seen it attempted and it never takes off because of all the core problems that people have addressed already.

That said ... If any company had a chance of being the first to be really successful with this concept, I would be looking to Google or Amazon to make it happen.

As someone smack dab in the middle of the Canadian prairies where 100ms+ ping to popular US data centers is typical, I'm not going to hold my breath about this being a viable alternative to running locally.

I'm a little surprised no one made a Sekiro containment thread. I haven't been this hyped since Bloodborne. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

I wonder if games will eventually go the Netflix/Hulu/Amazon route where you don't buy individual games anymore, but a $10/month service to access a library of on demand games.

Sony, Microsoft and EA already offer exactly that, so yeah - I think we can expect services of that nature to become a larger part of gaming going forward, but I sure hope they don't absolutely dominate.

Have seen on a deals site that Ikaruga is available through the Playstation store for less than a fiver, don't know if that's also available in other territories but if you have the slightests interest in shmups then get this game

Anyone interested in shmups has probably already played Ikaruga and realised it's overrated

Battle Garegga(GOAT), Ketsui and Dariusburst are on PS4, play those instead.

I've finally picked up a copy of Mass Effect Andromeda. I've completed the other three games on Insanity. Any opinions on whether or not it's worthwhile going for an Insanity run with Andromeda on my first playthrough? I want to do it if the gameplay and story are rewarding enough to warrant making it as challenging as possible but, I'd rather go through it on a lower difficulty if it'll start to drag after a while.
