I'm super happy that they are still patching the 13 yr old game, but this is pretty lackluster to me. I was hoping for banwaves, balance changes, new maps, anti hack, new interface, ladder reset...I dunno anything useful.

Compatibility patch is underwhelming. I can also confirm that I've never crashed from Chain Lightning in over 2k games.

Looks like we are getting a patch sometime in the next 2-6 weeks.

Minor implementation = 1 to 2 of the below things (hopefully):
1) shortened search times
2) ladder reset
3) different maps (not necessarily new ones)
4) anti-hack measures
5) delay/lag reduction

Yea if you have your keys the download is free. If you lost them too it's only 10 bucks each for RoC and TFT. Once you download and install they are in your battle.net digital library so you won't have to worry about losing them again.

-the 'classic games' team at Blizzard is bigger than you would expect and they love Warcraft 3.

The patch technology seems like a huge deal and I'm very optimistic for the future.

One of my favorite RTS titles. There are some really annoying cheesy strats, like bears/dryads and just NE in general, but i loved playing Orc and how each race felt so unique in play style and mechanics. The heroes added a completely new dimension to the genre that i feel starcraft really lacks.

I'll have to fire this up again soon and see if i can shake off the rust

When you reinstall make sure to sign up on USEast(Azeroth) and not USWest. USWest is dead. The ping difference should be negligible.

I'm not sure how long you've been away, but even though the game is insanely well balanced, orc is regarded as the strongest class in team games. Human is best in solo. Again, I can't emphasize enough how well balanced the races are for how different the playstyles are. That's definitely a huge reason the game has a such a big following 15 years after release.

Patch is live today! There's some minor quality of life stuff, including windowed mode, but to a long time enthusiast the biggest change is that they improved the patching process itself. This should result in faster, stronger, more ductile, less tough improvements. Best game of all time (sorry EU4 you're #2), come play!

They gonna give out wc3 for free anytime soon like they're planning on for sc?

SC1 classic is effectively a dead game when the revamp comes out. If someone cares enough to play it for free they are the target audience to spend $40(?) dollars on the revamp. WC3 graphics are fine as-is. I don't see them doing the same thing for Frozen Throne.

WC3 Remastered or WC4 is gonna get announced in the next 5-10 min I think

The biggest patch in 10 years or so got released for the beta server today. In about a week (Feb27/28) Blizzard is hosting their first wc3 tourney since 2010 with a bunch of europe, korean and legend players. At the end of that event 99.999%% wc3 remastered will get announced.

How have they not made a 4th edition yet? I like Starcraft but it was never on the level of Warcraft in terms of story and replayability and just immersion into the universe. I woudn't even be sad if they never made a Starcraft but if they just erased Warcraft I'd actually be sad lol. I guess they'd rather waste time on lame new versions of Diablo that don't measure up to the 1st one.

yea this game is way too good for them to just keep it on the shelf like they have been. look forward to remastered, but what they really need are better servers (from the last time i played, anyway, which admittedly was a while ago). maybe I will fire this back up this week.
