Valorant (Riot FPS in development) Valorant (Riot FPS in development)

- Described as a blend of CS:GO and Overwatch
- Running on Unreal Engine 4
- At 37m12s there appears to be a buy screen similar to CS:GO

Segment starts at 34m59s

I'm pretty hyped about this, Overwatch has been failing bigtime lately with the terrible sheild meta and heal power creep. CS:GO is a good distraction, but the game hasn't really changed much in the last however many years it's been around.

If Riot can capture MOBA (LoL), card games (Legends of Runeterra), fighting games (another new project) and FPS (Ares) they may take over the competitive gaming world.

I'll definitely be watching all the Riot stuff closely. They are making a big push here. TFT and Runeterra hopefully will not be in a closed beta for long, they need to get it accessible to not lose momentum.

I got a key for Legends of Runeterra. Kept a few streams open yesterday and today and finally got one about an hour ago. Beta is going down tonight and will come back up in about 3 or so weeks. I don't really have much time to play tonight so I won't be able to get into it. The opening tutorial was decent, but nothing more than being a scripted story showing you how to play the game.

How did you get a key? I signed up but then it asked me to download to the LoR installer, but once I did that it wouldn't let me actually install the client.

On Twitch, I linked my Riot account with Twitch. And then all you had to do was keep streams open and it randomly notified you. I heard people getting them anywhere between 8hrs to over 24hrs of having streams open. Some people had multiple streams open and would just walk away from the computer — which is what happened to me. When I got mine, I only had one stream open and left my computer for about 4 hours but I had been leaving streams open throughout the weekend.

The next phase will be mid-November so there will be another chance.

All their new in development stuff is definitely something that has my attention, but I have pretty reserved expectations of how these games will end up from a mtx / p2w standpoint. I know LoL isn't horrible on these fronts, but it's also not great, and the only mainstream MOBA I believe which included power level items locked behind (grind-or-)paywalls.

Either way, they obviously nailed the mark with LoL and it will be interesting to see what they can do with other genres. Particularly with some genres that feel like they haven't had any serious new comers for a while (fighting games, CS style FPS).

If you're talking about runes and runepages, they did away with them two or so years ago (and they were minor really). I'll admit unlocking the champions in a free-to-play way might take a while, but you don't really need more than a handful of champions to be competitive. There's no "pay to win" in League (unless you count a VERY small amount of flashy cosmetic skins that make some spell effects harder to recognize).

I haven't followed LoL in years so didn't realize they took them out. They were minor buffs but it was still buffs for $ and I'd always rather see games use other methods to monetize.

It's relieving to know they took them out. So many companies slip the other way as sales start to wane.

Streams up of gameplay recorded, with drops enabled on Twitch which is how you earn beta keys. Probably going to be pretty tough to get one I'm assuming but I'll keep some tabs open and see if I get lucky.

Looks good, it's more cartoony than Overwatch but they also really made terrain simple. Will definitely be the hotness on release.

Yeah it's just a huge critical mass of League players who also play FPS and would give it a shot, plus Riot just makes pretty polished stuff.

What a truly awfull name!
I'm not into this game at 1st glance (I loved CS and overwatch though), it seems so much in between with really bad graphics.
I guess graphics are going to be a hit or miss for people , personnally it looks really cheap.
It reminds me of crossfire...
I'll probably try it when it's out tho

All the big streamers are saying it's incredible. Did anybody get a key for the beta this week?

No beta here.
I always take the whole streaming community gushing over a game with a grain of salt, but hard not to get excited.

Me either
Ya I know what you mean but there seems like a lot of genuine hype going around. Really hoping it's good.

It certainly looks neat, but I don't think it's going to be my cup of tea. I don't really like "tactical" shooters. I don't like that if I die, I have to wait the rest of the round/game to play again. This especially hurts when I'm new to a game and stink. Plus, these games tend to be sneak/wait...SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT...dead.

Definitely like the team play and heroes with abilities, which is why I enjoy Overwatch. More constant action and if I'm not very good, whatever, I'll respawn and try again.

For anyone trying to get a twitch drop...You can open multiple streams, keep them muted, and let them sit in the background. Just make sure your browser doesn't freeze the video when it's not the active screen.

Also, make sure it says "Drops enabled! Watch for a chance to earn loot." under the screen/game details or you can't get it. Some streamers *cough*Disrespect*cough* don't have drops enabled but have their stream titled with the word "drop" in it. A little sneaky and deceptive.

I've heard from multiple different streamers that having more than one drop-enabled stream open at a time does not increase your chance of getting a key.

But definitely keep one open in the background and keep those fingers crossed. Summit was on for like 16 hours today.

Anybody else get a key? I've had twitch streams open all day for the past two days, but I haven't gotten one.

CONGARTZ. Curious how it is. I can't tell what's going on watching streams in terms of the special stuff. Huge portion of it seems like CS:GO ripoff, which isn't bad if they do some stuff right that CS:GO doesn't.
