So starting yesterday I believe Twitch has started some kind of all out war against many of its users. There's an admin named "Horror" who has approved furry pornographic emotes while denying many other emotes, and when backlash appeared, Twitch started banning users:

http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comme...on_twitch_for/

Comments section has been nuked, but multiple high level streamers (e.g. _Peaches and Werster) have already been banned. Werster in particular made a living off of subscriptions from his Twitch channel so not sure what will happen going forward. Seems like atrocious management & administration from twitch.

Can you describe said furry pornographic emotes?

Emotes here:

The content isn't even a big deal IMO, it's the fact that Twitch seems to be nuking any streams/tweets/mentions of the incident or admin in the hopes that it will just go away. I did not expect streamers that routinely get 3k+ viewers to get permabanned over an admin complaint.

I presume an /r/gaming mod has ties to Twitch?

This situation is so amazing. I can hardly believe it's real. It's like there's literally nobody in the right here.

Twitch is handling this in the least professional way possible, in bans, and on their Twitter account.

The SRG crowd however is managing to make itself look at least as bad with the fixation on attacking Horror for being a gay furry, and not for being a bad admin.

yeah Horror is a terrible admin, he denies emotes to streamers he doesn't like. Ridiculous he approves furry emotes and other similar emotes but disallows others because "that's not the type of image twitch wants to project" when it is from a streamer he doesn't like.

That awkward moment for Twitch when they realize their revenue stream doesn't really belong to them, it belongs to their users, who they're currently pissing off in droves.

I mean, a well-known business actually defending this **** and banning users who talk about it is, like....wat. Haven't these idiots spent enough time around the Internet to know that never, ever goes well for you?

http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php is relevant to your interests. If the .flv files you get from there aren't compatible with whatever you're using to watch, you can use some ffmpeg wizardry to convert them to .mp4.

It got wiped from reddit.

The info I'm getting is mostly from twitter accounts like @digbythefox, @GoldenSRL, @AdamKuczynski. The key banned streamers seem to be @Duke_Bilgewater, @wersterlobe, and @peaches____

The admin in question is @HorrorTheCat.

That'll be the most complete collection of facts.

The /r/gaming thread getting deleted was really really weird.

Yeah, I do understand. How about people who repeat the act of running over and over to get better at it? Or any particular sport (golf or bowling are good examples.) Or a musical instrument. Or other types of games (chess, poker, lol.) Still, with video gaming it does often feel trite and fruitless.

There's a point though where any goal simply becomes proving to yourself that you can do it. The thrill of getting a World Record and being better than anyone else in the world ever has been; albeit at a small facet of one video game, in most instances, can be a pretty amazing feeling; though usually a fleeting one.

It's just what we do. No more or less different than what others do when it comes down to it.

I agree. When people ask me "why did you start speedrunning this game?" I tell them, "we all speedran it back in the day." Popularity can stem from many things. The community never really did much to try to grow after like 2005. Those in charge were more focused on the social aspects of their close friendgroups, and as a result, the gaming focus suffered.

As well, you could just argue that SM64, OOT, etc, peaked at the right time. They weren't super actively speedrunning those games from 1997-2006 (when Goldeneye was actively run) but started once the internet got better, streaming became a thing, etc. Some games peaked at the right time. Goldeneye didn't.

A big summary of Twitch drama here:

http://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/com...peace_werster/

It seems the biggest streamer (Werster) has been unbanned. Other streamers (Peaches__, Duke_bilgewater, etc) are still banned, there are something like 15-20 small streamers who have been banned by having "Remove Horror" in their streams or the title of their streams. As time goes on it's unlikely these smaller streamers will have their accounts restored.

Anyone who is still spamming "Remove Horror" in chat or streams is getting banned. It's possible this may piss off enough people to start looking at alternatives to Twitch.

HorrorCat is an admin on Twitch. He is gay and a self-described furry I believe.

The drama basically all started when he denied many emote requests he didn't like (e.g. Cyghfer's emotes) while approving "furry" emotes. Emotes are the little icons you can type in chat, like FrankerZ (dogface). Several streamers started protesting this, with various amounts of anti-gay or anti-furry slurs thrown in, which led to bans. Several streamers were then banned for nothing more than "Remove Horror" being displayed in their streams, in the hopes of stopping a rising tide of hate or something. This of course has the opposite effect and now the whole thing has imploded into a nearly site-wide issue.

I hope that's a reasonable introduction into the cluster****.

He specifically put in a emote of his (now ex-) boyfriend, while seeming to deny emotes capriciously, even after granting them approval.

Then it came out the character in the emote has been featured in some furry vore pornography...

Twitch has handled the whole thing about as badly as possible. Waves of bans are not the way to mitigate a problem.

By now they should have unbanned all the nuked accounts, issued an apology, and fired Horror (or at least set up a new emote-approval system that he is not in complete control of). Instead they have a lot of pissed off users.

**** Horror. The guy should have been gone a long time ago. Like Neil said, no one here is really in the right but Horror is definitely a POS that needs to go. It has nothing do to with his sexual preference or weird fetish, he plays favourites and constantly denies people emotes and generally ignores streamers he doesn't like.
