Seems pretty common for streamers to incite sub and donation trains that probably wouldn't happen if a dude is just chilling with his viewers while playing the game instead of basically panhandling. I would love to read a psychological analysis of the kind of person that makes 10-20 dummy sub accounts on Twitch over the course of an hour just so they keep getting praised by the streamer. People are weird.
Yeah I agree with this as well. I think it's a pretty weird culture developing. The overabundance of advertising and panhandling is one thing and can really detract from the experience. I also have a real problem with the word "donate." To me it makes them sound like charity cases. "Donate" to UNICEF or something, not joethegamer87. I understand streamers need to support themselves somehow and there's nothing at all wrong with that, I just wish they'd use a different word.
Anyway I watched one streamer and to me it seemed like he was just profiteering off people's need for attention. I know this goes on to some extent on many streams but I suppose he was particularly shameless about it. He was essentially selling his ability to procure an audience and renting it out to those willing to pay. Subscribers/donators got to talk on screen for a few min etc. Biggest donator etc gets their name up on screen. And it works! Someone donated
fifty thousand dollars to this streamer. I just think it's pretty gross and I'm a little surprised at how much of it goes on.
