personally I started watching to see which games I may or may not want to end up buying, but started sticking around moreso now because of the actual streamers themselves.
I learn about games from streams whether it is a game I wanna check out or learn the mechanics in. I find 90% of streamers (even the bigger ones) to be relatively poor in the entertainment department. Which doesn't really matter if they are cool.

All of the above. If I'm trying to get better at a game, then I watch streams with high level gameplay (and preferably educational content too). There are some streamers I just enjoy watching, so I'll watch regardless of what game they're playing. And then if a new game comes out and I'm curious, then I'll just watch whoever's playing it, even if it's some unknown streamer with like 5 viewers.

Guessing his wife will not only forgive him but also provide him with enough hookers and blow to keep the money flowing.

I'm delighted to watch him in character again. I even shed a tear just now.

I totally get watching streams, and learning from pros, the interaction etc and i even understand subbing for $5 as i have done a few times. but the donations imo are crazy.

like $100+ donations is totally nutso to me. i can think of 10 things i dont even need id rather blow $100 on. Let alone the insane ones donating $1000 or $5000. like theres literally no gain, no acknowledgement on a $100 donation if they are streaming in every 3 seconds. its just like..... Why?

but i guess stupid people exist everywhere, theres always something to blow money on. look at bitcoin lol. i think i answered my own question.

Ninja had a 12k donation train a week or so ago. It was insane because it started with a guy who donated and asked if he could join. Ninja said "no" and refunded it. And people just started throwing money at him for the next hour and half.

there are just people out there with stupid amounts of money to throw around

there's a guy who donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to CS:GO pro streamers. think he donated almost $50,000 to just one player

must be nice

then there are the guys who donate then chargeback, that's gotta suck...

pretty sure 99% of the people who donated like 20 to 200$ arent even rich at all.

there's weird people out there and they dont mind giving a % of their weekly pay to a streamer. its hard to understand really but theres a tonnnn of them

Its pretty crazy to watch those "You out donate? I out donate you!" moments. Seen a few people get quite a few thousand in like 2 minutes from that stuff.

I watched the 1st 2hrs and the highest count I saw was 367k.

Right before I left Doc said he had 12k subs today. I'd like to know the total for the day.

I'm sure plenty of people kept tabs throughout. I'm curious to see the numbers. I heard 387k and that Tyler's biggest was 378k, but those 2 could've been reversed.

He said at some point within an hour or so of the end that he had 16k and was back up to 25k subs.

I've watched twitch since its inception, and I've never found someone that is half as entertaining at the end of the day than the Doc. There are a lot of people that are amusing, amazing at games, or just funny... but Doc has a real mesh of comedy/showmanship/production that is like nothing else on twitch. His stream quality/energy is on a different level.

Pumped that he's back.

That's insane. Anyone know if that's a 1 day record?

The majority of the subs I saw were prime.

I've subbed to various channels, but I've only ever donated to streamers when they were at a point of just making it by with like 150-200 viewers and were clearly trying to make it their job.

In that case I'm literally paying to sustain a high quality entertainment source , which I think makes sense.

Giving doc $20 yesterday just makes no sense to me at all. But people are weird.

He's pushing the envelope which I think is cool.

I personally don't find him super funny or anything, I've watched maybe 15-30 minutes of his stream, and I imagine 90% of his fanbase consists of 13 year old boys. Nevertheless, one could certainly argue that he's taken streaming to another level. The production quality/commitment to the bit really is second to none. I'm not gonna say it's an art form yet or anything, but it's probably not far off.

Seems pretty dismissive of his fanbase, just assuming it's all kids, because it's not your style.
