finally picked this up after doing about everything there is to do in Fallout 4. Liked Witcher 2, and heard great things about this one. The one thing bothering me so far is that you MUST be in third person. I played FO in 95% first person and got used to that. Also, the battle feels a bit clunky, lots of rotating and focusing in/locking on to the right guy.

It took me a few hours to get used to this, but after a while it felt perfectly natural

Plus it was a good transition point for when I picked up dark souls lol

Edit: Are you playing on console or PC? I can see it being tougher on pc, but working the camera is pretty easy with the dual joysticks of a xbox controller imo

Any big reason to focus on Gwent? It's mildly amusing but unless it gets you some kind of reward (outside of the max 10 goldI can bet), I think I'd rather spend time doing other things in the game.

Not really, there is one quest (Gwent tournament) that leads into another quest, but it doesn't matter if you win the tournament or not (it is really hard, but if you win you get some extra gold).

I loved gwent, as I'm a sucker card games, but I don't think it was necessary.

Aside from the tournament, they may be a few quests where gwent is just one of the options to complete it, rather than fighting or something.

Can someone give me a very high level tutorial on crafting, specifically weapons? Basically all I want to know is how often I should be upgrading my swords and armor. I just finished the main quests in Velen and maybe half the secondary quests (Level 12) and am pretty much rocking most of my original gear. I did one armor upgrade and changed out my steel sword. I've heard to just wait and try to get all Witcher gear, but I feel like I shouldn't still be using a Level 1 silver sword at this point.

You should be picking up random swords and armor along the way by now, so just find one that out damages what you're using and roll with it

The plans for the viper school swords are available in white Orchard, those are great for early game. Then you should go try to find the Griffin school plans which you can use somewhere around lvl 14 iirc

One more question- any suggestions on optimal gameplay in terms of doing Secondary quests and over/under leveling? I realize that the whole point of an open-world game is to play however you want, but as I complete Velen and move onto Novigard I'm starting to notice that I'm way over-leveled for certain quests and way under on others. I was trying to do almost every quest in Velen, but am not realizing that might impact my ability to earn XP down the road. Anyone run into similar issues?

I got over levelled for a bunch of quests. I loved the game, so going back and doing them was worth it for me.

There are more than enough quests to keep you busy though, so missing a bunch doesn't make much difference.

If you do every quest, you are going to be over-leveled. The game seems designed so that you do NOT need to do all of the side quests, contracts, etc. to proceed along the main quest line.

Being over-leveled is not going to have any negative effect on you other than possibly making the game too easy (ramp up difficulty if you need/want to). Just don't do quests above your level and you'll be fine.

I do the main quests at the required level and when it goes up I do all the side quest which are below my level

I'm bit disappointed if that is the last xpack. I really want the Valley of Flowers and Nilfgaard and Saskia and dwarves and...

Started playing again. Got Blood and Wine, but haven't started it yet.

Basically reteaching myself how to play by doing the few quests and things I missed the first time round (predominately on Skellige). I swear I used to be good at combat...

I'm so very tempted to start again or NG+, but I really don't have the time to put in to it.

Finally going to start playing this this weekend. Waited 7 months for a new computer and then I played through Witcher 1 & 2 first.

Wow lucky you. I bought a new computer too, but rushed ahead straight to W3. I think I might go back and play 1+2 after I finish Blood and Wine.

Even though the gameplay is meant to be way behind W3, a lot of the reason I love this game is the story and the characters, so I think it'll be worth it. Most of the books have English editions now, with the rest coming out this year/next year, so might give them a go too.

Also
Rumour: The Witcher’s Gwent Becomes Own Game

They'd need to add quite a bit of new stuff, and tweak it to keep it balanced, but it definitely has potential imo.

I might be weird but I think 1 > 3 > 2

I love all three but I don't see how anyone can go anything but 3>2>1 - possible nostalgia excepted.

Storywise 2 is the best though imo.

Yeah having just played through 1 & 2 it is definitely 2>1.

Yeah 1 has good story but the gameplay is mediocre. 2 is excellent game, 3 is even better. I do think everyone who enjoys 2 should play both Roche's and Iorveth's paths. The whole chapter 2 is different and chapter 3 is changed too. So basically it is 60% new game and really gives you a different perspective.

They've purchased a prime spot at E3 that's normally reserved for major franchises. It looks like they have big plans for Gwent.
