Holy crap I suck at SF2HDREMIX. I can't even pull off half the moves more than 1/5 times. Need to work on it big time. I used to suck with the fireball motion in the arcade too, so I think it's a user defect and not a product of the controller.

By suck, I mean I lose to everyone. Hell, I suck at Puzzle Fighter as well. Going to have to be in training mode for a while before I take on you guys.

damn i can't believe i don't have this game yet. i had the foresight to preorder the tournament edition stick 2 months in advance, yet i didn't order the actual CE game (ps3 is sold out across the face of the earth apparently)...damn it!

i'm getting alot better with akuma, but my friend is REALLY good now with ryu, so he creams me.

i'm a bit dodgy countering crossups, so that's where alot of his damage comes from. once he saves up a super, 1 successful crossup from him and I've lost 60% of my hp. I also can't jump in on him because he times his counterhit lp.shory > super/ultra perfectly

I'm good with raging demons, but against a player that knows how to counter them it's VERY hard to get them off.

I'm going to practice the challenge mode combo stuff to get akuma's more damaging combos down so that when I do have an opportunity to punish, I do max damage.

dobo and astro should play b/c they both beat me about equally as bad.

astro is sick good w/blanka and it's effing annoying. wtf is good w/blanka?

blanka is so frustrating to play against. he owns shotos, but can get picked apart by other characters that know how he plays

I play akuma. Some basic shoto tips are not to randomly throw fireballs from middle/close range if he has any ex bars, because you'll get nailed by an ex ball. Crossing up is hard too with the electricity spam. If you avoid falling into those traps it can be harder for blanka to do damage.

With akuma I basically frustrate with fireballs (especially air ones if he has ex) and then land combos on one of few openings I'll get. I've hardly played any blankas though, every second player on xbox live is ken or sagat.

I'm probably responsible for that. I play at work all the time as Sagat and Ken. We've probably played a ton (I use many different account names).

There's a setting somewhere for that. Sorry I can't be more specific.

That's kinda surprising, aren't you a Guitar Hero dexterity king? I say jump right into online play, though.

I think even a traded DP on a jump-in can still be comboed into an ultra. Maybe this game will turn into turtle fighter.

Thanks I play Vega and T Hawk on STHD, so I guess I'm all about annoying.

Blanka kinda kills fireballs dead. cf.HP will slide under it and knock down, no EX charge required.

Unplugging will work, but at the main screen there's an option to edit your "profile" (R1 on the PS3). Change your pref from PLAYER MATCH or RANKED MATCH to NONE.

Clayton, you can turn the feature on and off, but only before you start arcade mode. You can't change it in the middle, unfortunately. I couldn't even get through one stage without getting interrupted. I wish they would time it so you fought only one opponent per arcade round or something.

In other news, I suck really bad at doing cancel combos or whatever they're called. I'm trying out Abel, but for the life of me I can't do combo into his hurricane throw. I'm thinking about maining Abel for a while just to be different, even though I guess he's pretty bad. Kind of a fun character, though.

As if the other SF games aren't turtle fighter.

Yeah, a traded jump in can still be comboed into a super/ultra.

Ryu is a big cheeseball in this game. He has so many ways of landing a super or ultra, it's just dumb. That's what differentiates him from Ken, and to a lesser extent Akuma.

I don't know about turtle fighter. maybe. I played a good guile a bit last night and lost 2-6, I ****ing hate guile. The games were pretty close though.

My friend totally ripped the same guile the other day. This particular guile loves to sonic boom > rushdown in the corner and then go sweep happy with a some sonic booms and overheads thrown in. My friend would focus attack between sweeps, and then follow up with a srk > dash cancel > ultra. It was beautiful.

Sagat links like 60% of his moves into his ultra.

Can anyone help me on Abel's Hard Trial Level 2 combo?

It's forward kick -> dash -> HP -> rekka + continuation...

Dan blocks pretty much all my HP's, even if I wail on the HP button as soon as I input the second forward movement to dash. When I do land the HP I nearly always end up doing a sky grab (shoryu motion) or his super. I'm trying to not go so nuts on the controller so I can input the rekka after landing an HP, but when I relax I never land the HP anyway...Cruel cycle!

So can anybody tell me when to input a single HP command in there so I don't wail? Landing the rekka should be easy if I can land the HP even 50%+ instead of 5%+.

Hey all maybe a dumb question, tried searching around... anyone know of an arcade in vegas that has SF4... looked in the gameworks on the strip and circus circus to no avail... could just buy the ps3 version but miss playin sf in the arcade from the old days.

With all the challenge modes, you're going to be doing more harm than good by wailing on any buttons trying to get a link to come out. Many of the links in the challenge combos are <2 frame links (meaning 2/30th's of a second is your window to hit it correctly). It's really all about timing and fine tuning. Do the mk and dash, wait, hit FP.

Blocked? Do it again, only a hair faster. Didn't come out? Be just a bit slower next time.

As far as super coming out, try to leave the stick in neutral after the middle kick into dash. Then hit FP, then do the quarter circle forward and make sure you hold forward, this should help in reducing your air throw inputs.

Astro - I'll add you tonight. My roommates use my PS3 a lot too so they probably ignored the friend invite and I didn't know it was there.

Thanks TBag...I didn't think that the punch not coming out or being blocked was supposed to be a cue, but now that I understand that, it is helping out a lot. Got done with that one fairly quickly, and level 3 was ok too. On level 4 now and this one may kill me, if only because the combo works without the roll and I hate that I have to throw in the roll for some reason.

The combo is c.mp, light rekka, FADC, c.hp, light roll, sky grab. I don't really understand why the roll has to be in there. I can get the roll or the grab, but I never seem to have enough time to get both in before Dan hits the floor.

If anybody can give any advice, I'd appreciate it, but I imagine it's just about doing a qcf+lk, using the forward input to go directly into the shoryu motion. Sounds simple, but it's so killer...

Also, I'll probably main Abel in ranked matches for a while just because I think he's pretty cool, but also I've been watching videos and reading about him. The fact that his command throw can beat all throws normally or all pokes when it's ex seems pretty big. Also, the combos seem easy to throw and the fact that his ultra moves through a fireball makes it seem like it would be easy to throw against a lot of the shoto characters people are playing online (Ken x eleventy billion).

EDIT: Also, I'm sure gief is better than Abel, but I could never throw 720's when I used to play in the arcades, so I don't even really want to try right away on here. HCB+P = easy, though.

Can you guys reliably pull off supers and ultras with a wireless 360 analog stick? Maybe I just suck.

Unfortunately the standard 360 controllers absolutely suck for this game. You pretty much need either the SFIV fightstick or fightpad. I have the fightpad and it works pretty good.

Sucks. I'm a very casual player (haven't played a SF game since SF II) and don't really care enough to buy a specialty controller. Guess I just won't pull offer supers or ultras in anything but training.

The dpad on the controller is way better than the analog stick. If you go into regular practice mode, there's an option called "input display" that lets you know what buttons and directions you're pressing. I can do supers, ultras, and 720s. Executing in the heat of the moment is tough, but that has more to do with my skills. Maybe I have a revised d-pad or something.

There's an arcade finder here:

None in Vegas.
