Stellaris: GOAT 4x? Stellaris: GOAT 4x?

I really just didn't enjoy this game at all.

Felt like unpolished Galactic Civilization 2.

I'm really looking forward to the 2.o release on Thursday. Love what I'm seeing on twitch streams and youtube today.

I think I've liked everything they've done since they initially released. This game, Kerbal, and Civ 6 will keep me occupied for a long time.

I knew this was too good to be true.

Sure enough about 5 minutes after I set up all the mining stations... This happened.

I didn't read the patch notes so I was initially confused why I couldn't expand my borders or settle outside my borders. I do like the new setup. It gives my construction sips something to do, and slows the game down a bit. The process for the DLC is a but much for what you get though. I'll have to wait until it's on sale.

so i put a few hours into this over the weekend. I actually really like it. The early game feels much more directed and requires more decision making. Before it was just gobble up as many systems as you can for minerals. now you need to make decisions about how and where to expand. I have a lot more construction and science ships, all busy.
i have not yet been in a war, but i'm next to a driven assimilator who i probably will be with eventually. The hyperlane only restriction seems to be much better for strategic battles as i'm trying to expand into choke points, build bases, etc. Based on fleet power, its possible the starbases are not as strong as they need to be, but we'll see once i get to war.
seems to be a good overhaul so far.

2.2 Le Guin update hits Thursday. Completely overhauls the economy. Star systems now generate trade value which have to be collected and protected or can be stolen or pirated.

Megacorp DLC introduces corporate governments that generate trade value by opening branch offices on other peoples planets. The DLC seems like it will make it a lot of fun to play tall just building branch offices instead of colonizing planets.

I have been enjoying watching some streams on twitch this week. Only problem with that is I have zero desire to play the game till Thursday.

Game is in need of some emergency patching. It's not stable and lags like hell after a few decades. The AI is also supposedly completely broken and hopeless after this overhaul but I'm not able to get deep enough in to really see.

I like what they did or are trying to do but this wasn't ready for release.

A patch released on the beta branch fixes a lot of the major problems. Only thing I'm not happy about is they increased the default energy starting storage cap to 50K?!

Really love the new economy and the planetary rework.

Corporations are good if you are surrounded by xenophiles, but pointless around xenophobes.

Biggest disappointment so far is that I really couldn't get my xenophobic, militarist, materialist media conglomerate (Named Fox News Corp) to work effectively.

The beta patch does seem better. The AI has been awful for a long time though and seems crippled now. I play on Grand Admiral difficulty and am hardly a min-maxer or exploiting player and the game is ridiculously easy. For example, on CIV games I generally just chill on Emperor without trying to bang my head on the Immortal or Diety difficulties and my play style isn't any different in Stellaris yet Grand Admiral is still way too easy.

Unless I spawn right next to an advanced start devouring swarm or something I can't recall the last time I lost a game.

I think I'll go back to Kerbal for a while and check back in a month to see what further fixes have happened. Then I'll play Stellaris for a bit while I wait for Civ6's new expansion to release and get fixed if necessary.

haven't played a game long enough to see how the AI is.
I do like the direction they went with planets, seems more interesting.
