"The general system of WCS Circuit remains the same. However, a few changes have been applied to the tournament format—each player who drops out in the Group Stage of WCS Spring will get a second chance in the knockout brackets. We will give more details on this in the coming weeks."

It's a 16 player bracket that doesn't re-draw groups, so we know all potential matchups before brackets lock.

I was thinking a March Madness-style bracket with Fibonacci scoring

So each correct Ro8 pick worth 2 points, Ro4 worth 3 points, finalists 5 points, and the champion worth 8 points

Something like $10-20 per bracket, winner take all unless we get more than 10

The real challenge will be to get everyone that's interested in and paid after the bracket is announced but before the games start

i dont like that scoring since its not exactly seeded, but 1-1-2-3-5 would be ok

not sure if you meant per person or per bracket but wta with multiple entries seems not great. if people want to do multiples, pick a main and other iterations go vs whomever on the side

I'll bet you even money - I get Zerg and Protoss, you get Terran. Seems fair. Actually maybe I should get Gumiho and you just get Maru.

Are there brackets anywhere? I'd be interested in betting on individual matches, or maybe a few matches and whoever gets most right wins.

The reason I like that scoring is so the first round matchups matter. In my experience in NCAA pools, just correctly picking the winner is an insurmountable advantage in pools where the points double every round.

There are only 4 rounds that score, not 5, which is why 1-1-2-3-5 wouldn't work. That's also why it starts at 2 points, so the scoring is slightly more, but not double, each round. Fibonacci scoring also does a great job preventing ties, which matters in a smaller bracket like this.

I hadn't planned on making more than one entry, we can cap it at 1 if you want.

I'll give you odds on a terran winning if you want a sweat.

Spoiler, there are only 2 terrans in the field, Maru and Gumiho, and they would potentially meet in the Ro8.

If we assume Maru advances, and Gumiho does too vs Dark (obv not given), that guarantees a Terran in the Ro4. If every match from the Ro4 onward was a true coinflip, then fair odds would be 3:1, +300, 1 in 4.

Maru coming off 4 GSL's and looking like the best player ever complicates things, so Bank of TJ is gonna offer +280 on either Terran winning. I'll lay my $56 to your $20, or my $112 to your $40.

Gumiho is a massive underdog to dark.
Maru has been struggling vs Dark historically.
Stats is a beast.
I don't know much about betting tho but your statement feels a bit rushed.

I didn't mean to stop your action, I don't know what fading maru means and don't know much about sport betting.
I'm just a Maru fanboy and yes I have watched lot of the last year GSLs (I'd say around 80% of the games and all games from Ro16+).
Maru's dominance isn't the same as last year, he had his proxy 2 racks unchallenged all year but people learnt.
I'm super happy he won this GSL but all I'm saying is the path is not easy.
He lost to Bunny in Ro16 in winners match but yet he kinda cruised to the finals after that.
And funny thing is I feel Maru is stronger than last year where he was riding that proxy strat, but is that much better than rest of the field to get +280?

fading maru at most odds seems like a v solid bet...this is kind of a hybrid tournament between IEM/blizzcon and GSL but i think at this point we have pretty solid evidence that maru is undeniably the GOAT with preparation and probably borderline top 5 players right now at weekend tournaments.

just off the top of my head somewhere between +300 and +400 seems about right...

wrt terran bet, <3:1 seems very low, so no thanks there. no way maru edge is worth nearly that when 8:1 would be neutral ev. they cant both be alive past ro8 so i would say even higher than 8:1 could be even, but we seem to be very far apart here

Ya - what do you think reasonable odds are? Even money at first seemed reasonable to me...last years blizzcon iirc had Maru+ serral at slightly greater than 50%, but I think to say both have regressed compared to the field slightly is fair (at least serral), and maru has shown to be vulnerable at WESG and IEM....
