The general consensus of internet wisdom is that I'm a moron for attacking into a Terran before I'm maxed out on Brood Lords with 7 bases behind. Might have some time this weekend to give that a shot. I don't even know what the Hive hotkey is though.

Actually, one other thing to note about the balance patch - the marauder change is a 58% damage buff against ultralisks in TvZ, assuming full upgrades on both sides.

Yeah as a zerg player i'm not too excited about this patch. The raven missile nerf is nice, but I play against marauders a lot more often than mass raven.

Do you just cycle through endless F2P accounts? Unranked? I don't know enough about the matchmaking system to understand why you're listed as Bronze 3, it seems like you're queued for ranked but no MMRs are showing, and yet I see a Plat icon in the end screen for your opponent.

Have you ever tried to push to your ladder limits on an account to see how high you can get?

- after placing this account in bronze I only play unranked on it, which is why it doesn't show a league for me in score screens or MMRs. I've had this account since WoL I think, it was my 2nd. My MMR is plat level from quitting ZvZs so that's who I get matched against.
- I think the last time I tried to play super competitively (which was, start of LotV maybe?) I was mid-diamond

Now that we're 8 years into SC2, who are we looking at as best player of all time so far? (inspired by artosis alluding to it during GSL):

Can anyone make a case for someone other than Mvp/Innovation/SoS?

I feel like

-Anyone in the WoL/early HOTS days is beaten by Mvp (including legends like NesTea, MC, and MMA)
-Innovation trumps all the "standard and current" KeSPA greats (Zest, Stats, soo, TY, Maru, Rogue, Dark, Classic, herO)
-SoS has it over all the non-standard path players that had super high highs/might have had most of their success in NA/EU (Life, Polt, Rain)

Then among those three it's really hard to pick....gun to my head I'd probably say Innovation>SoS>Mvp. I feel like Mvp is clearly the weakest but this gets into the whole "define GOAT criteria" rabbit hole. Then we have SoS who has 0 GSLs but i'd bet money would be at the bottom of every top player's list of opponents and has a strong collection of tournament wins to his name as well. Then you have innovation who's tied with MvP for most GSLs and who to a lot of people seems to be the mechanically perfect player.

Also interesting would be if you talk about the Brood War concept of bonjwa. Probably to me that would be something along the lines of Mvp, Life, Zest, then maybe innovation?

This is a huge problem that I had with SC2, as soon as someone tried to introduce something that wasn't a boring 4p macro map people would whine about imbalance, ignoring the fact that in BW a huge chunk of the balancing was done via maps (it's reckoned that the current ASL map pool is the worst for TvP ever which is easily Flash's worst match up) and that SC2 is still not balanced eight years after it was released. Let the pros play on it for more than one season and see what happens

Meh, I think both approaches work for their respective games. I'm not at all knowledgeable about BW history, but I imagine the whole "balancing through maps" concept came about largely because Blizzard never actually patched the game, so it was a way for the professional scene to take the matter into their own hands.

On the other hand, SC2 has had Blizzard's support since the beginning, so it makes sense to make fairly generic maps and let them handle the balance stuff. You don't need to use maps for balance when you have the developer actively working on it. I think SC2 could use more map diversity, but more radical map designs would probably just introduce more complications than they're worth.

For me, the GOAT is Life followed very closely by MVP (I don't object to the reverse ordering, but I'm Zerg and Life is my favorite player ever so. . . yeah I'm biased). It's not very scientific, but they both just had the aura about them that they were just so far above their peers that it didn't even seem possible to be that good. Admittedly, I haven't followed SC2 as closely as I did during their reigns, but no other player has really gotten to that level for me. The closest would be Innovation probably.

maru wasnt a kespa player, hes been playing since first gsl.

mvp probably for me, maru close behind since hes always been good but still getting better. innovation kinda fell off but hes up there. even polt was way up there for a while but i guess mvp still was ahead.

I don't know if it's about the professional scene "taking things into their own hands", more that the game went in phases and has naturally developed after the last patch - I'm not sure what ZvT looked like before muta stacking was developed or how PvZ looked before Bisu worked out the whole sair/DT builds, now we get to see if the total recall will result in a different PvT meta. In SC2 it's been the case that things have barely had time to develop before they nerf/buff/remove units/remove abilities/move to a new expansion etc etc

Seems like this is a stacked Ro16 when the first four picks in group nominations include a former Blizzcon champion and two former GSL champions

They had a goofy segment where they put the Ro16 players under a lie detector that shocked them if they lied
