So I won a TvZ after being down in supply 113 to 45, and my opponent was pretty upset:




I felt pretty bad about abusing terran to beat this poor guy, so I queued up as zerg hoping for a fair rematch. My wish was granted. Mr barcode was once a gain able to get out to a big lead, but I went for a basetrade and was able to kill his last extractor before he was able to find and kill my last hatchery. Unfortunately, since the end of the game was so close, my opponent didn't get to the chance to properly talk **** before being eliminated

That's the game I commented on earlier above (in spoilers): "I need to rewatch Solar vs. Stats G2, I have absolutely no idea how the second half of that game could have possibly followed from the first". I hesitate to say that this game should be some kind of guide - it's kind of a miracle Solar won that game. He was so dead at the 7 minute mark, and while I haven't rewatched yet to see what the exact mistakes are, I have to imagine it took a lot of them from Stats for him to have lost this.

edit: yeah skimming through the game again, it's so confusing. Roach-muta is not a thing and Solar never gets upgrades for his roaches (he did get +1 air attack, and he was finishing up +1 melee (???) when the game ended) against a Protoss with +1 or +2 attack...like, how on earth did this ever work?

fun game vs a random (protoss) on the ladder

clearly is trying to cannon rush but can't do that. then accidentally fully walls himself in, so as a result decides to build a hidden third base at the bottom left of acid plant with his scouting probe. also at the same time, goes DTs, which i scout, but then still builds 5 of them in an attempt to suicide into my third. to his credit, he saves them.

he then builds nothing but chargelot archon off two bases (the counter to this is mass roach + micro, right??) and then attacks until he has no more units.

Roaches are good for their tankiness (queens too for the same reason + transfusions), but if you have the time + resources to add something else to deal extra damage, whether it's banes (for the zealots) or hydras or lurkers (lurkers prob too late because the den takes forever to build), that's good too

not sure if anyone enjoys watching lol protoss replays but:

cliffs: he builds a pylon outside my natural, then proceeds to build 3 gateways, but loses both the probe and the pylon. he then sends another probe, which immediately gets killed because he doesn't know how to micro or mineral walk.

he finally sends a third probe, which builds a forge and cybernetics core outside his new "natural" (all on one base), and starts mass producing zealots and getting cannons. he's actually not in a terrible spot, but for the fact that 0 protoss players know how to macro if their rush doesn't straight up win, but then for some reason just insta GGs ()

I just found the map stats for all seasons. Anyone else look at this?

it appears my worst maps of all time are:
Akilon Wastes (15-29, 34%)
Cloud Kingdom (36-57, 40%)
Ohana (33-39, 45%)



who thought this map was a good idea? "sure, let's let every protoss and terran get a free third while at the same time making the map really rushable and with a lot of tight chokes for safe engages

My worst maps with a decent sample size:

Akilon (20-23, 46%, HotS)
Shattered Temple (62-71, 46%, WoL)
Ohana (40-50, 44%, WoL)

I was surprised about Akilon tbh, because I remember liking that map quite a bit. Not surprised about Ohana though, since that was the prime map for the soul train and I was unbelievably bad at holding all-ins back in WoL. I'm kinda surprised I didn't have anything worse than this, but not a whole lot since I've never really considered maps to be as big a balance factor as they're typically made out to be.

Scrap Station (54-34, 61%, WoL)
Daybreak (53-38, 58%, WoL/HotS)
Bel'Shire Vestige (38-29, 56%, HotS)
Derelict Watcher (50-9, 84%, HotS) (LOL)

Apparently, I just ****ing crushed people on Derelict Watcher (the map bsball posted as being 1-16 on). I don't even remember that map at all. I'm not surprising about Scrap Station, though. I always liked that map, even though it was never considered very good for Zerg iirc.

Also, I'm amusingly exactly 50% on Xel'naga Caverns (66-66).

I don't have anything too wild in WoL, but HotS:

- Vaani Research Station: 24-7 (77%)
- Secret Spring: 11-4 (73%) (I have no recollection of what this map is)
- Foxtrot Labs: 21-8 (72%)
- Yeonsu: 18-8 (69%) (I thought this was, like, the map of death for blink stalker all-ins but lol plat league I guess)
- Merry Go Round: 51-31 (62%)

No maps with a decent sample (>5 games) where I'm under 40%.

Same, and like you Akilon is my 3rd worst map with decent sample (same as yours, 46%). Deadwing and Star Station both 44%.

I think Overgrowth is my single most played map - 49% in 93 games played across my accounts.

i stopped playing before some of these but i HATED merry go round with a passion. though apparently i was 3-1 on it. lol me

Some excellent games in ASL today.

I just can't get into BW for some reason. Game 1 was pretty nuts, but games 2/3 (the other ones that TL reviewed as super good games) were kinda boring to me. Maybe it's just PvZ, seems like it's just repeatedly a Zerg swarm walking across the map while Protoss holds steady with zealot/archon/storm and they just bash against each other endlessly, and the game continues for 15 minutes after one side has decidedly lost.

the one thing i've always liked about BW is it's far less of this 'calm before a single engagement decides it' and more like you described of constant fighting. for me though i don't see it is this huge drawn out process after the outcome has been decided as much because there are situations where one side comes back through various plays.

where is this, i'm kind of interested even though i apparently haven't played a game in five years
