GSL Super Tournament qualifier results! (bolded players qualified)

- Group 1: Innovation cruises to an easy qualification, going 6-0 in maps. NoRegret takes a map off Trap and 2-0s a random Korean Zerg before losing to Leenock. Parting is apparently back but has a disappointing performance, losing 2-0 to Alive and beating some a random before losing 2-1 to Trap. Leenock nearly qualifies after knocking out Trap, but his two 2-1 losses doom him to the second qualifier, Alive.

Group 2: Kelazhur randomly turns in a great performance, beating Patience 2-1, losing to Classic and beating Supernova 2-0 before being eliminated 2-1 by Impact (who also eliminated Patience). Classic qualifies undefeated, Byun takes the loser's bracket over Impact.

Group 3: Puck is apparently also in Korea but lost 2-0 2-0 to Zest and Forte, ouch. MMA is also eliminated unceremoniously, going down 2-1 to Rogue and 2-0 to a random Protoss named Dandy. Dandy somehow makes the loser's bracket finals, eliminating Ragnarok and Ryung on the way, where he falls to Rogue. Zest qualified through the winner's bracket off a couple 2-1 PvZ wins.

Group 4: Cure manages to beat both SortOf and Soo 2-0 to make the winner's bracket finals, but then loses to Gumiho and falls in a rematch to Soo. Only other notable player here was Byul, who eliminated SortOf and then lost to Soo.

Group 5: The unlikely winner here is True, who beats Hurricane/TY/sOs in a challenging run, all by 2-1 scores. Zanster showed up and went out 0-4 to TY and Hurricane, Major/Special also showed up and lost to Keen, beat some random, and lost to TY. Hurricane eliminated Keen, then TY eliminates Hurricane and sOs comes down from the winner's bracket final to smash TY's hopes. Stacked group.

Group 6: Heartbreak for Scarlett, who makes the winner's bracket finals over Lambo and Solar, only to lose to Hero and then get eliminated in a rematch against Solar. Lambo (a German Zerg) managed to take out Creator before being eliminated by Losira. Jjakji was also in this group, lost to Losira and then Solar.

Group 7: The great hope HAS showed up only to lose 0-4 to Dark and Elazer, tragic. Revival, who I don't think has been heard from since 2015, lost to Bunny before taking out GSL caster JYP and then being eliminated by Trust, while Dark got eliminated by Dear. Trust surprisingly manages to advance in the LB with wins over Dear and Bunny, while Dark sails through the WB.

This is a pretty strong field for this tournament, kinda surprising how few surprises there are in the qualifier. Not a lot of upsets in terms of players who qualified other than maybe True over TY and Trust over Dear.

I think Liquipedia is good as long as you either use TeamLiquid or Google as a gateway to it. The main page is badly organized and it's hard to find things if you use that as a starting point, but if you go to TL they have lots of links to the direct event pages in Liquipedia.

Google the specific tournament. The specific liquipedia pages are a godsend and perfect imo. But navigating to them is a pain in the arse.

GSL S2 qualifier results! Same format as the Super Tournament qualifiers, but with 28 spots open instead of 14, way easier to get in. They split it into two days, so players who didn't qualify on day 1 could try again on day 2.

Group 1: Kelzahur beats Dear 2-1, but falls 2-1 to Keen then Forte to get eliminated. Losira and Keen qualify (also failing in this group: Hero and a disappointing Supernova who goes out 0-4)

Group 2: Scarlett advances cleanly, beating some Taiwanese player and then TY and Bunny (!!). Puck actually does decently well compared to his Super Tournament performance - he beats Creator, loses 2-1 to Bunny, beats the Taiwanese dude, then loses to TY. Billowy, who Artosis has been telling us for decades is gonna be awesome any minute now, goes out 2-1 to Bunny then 2-0 to Creator.

Group 3: Solar advances 6-0 ez pz, SortOf takes a series over Top but loses to jjakji/Hurricane, Byun advances in the LB.

Group 4: Major/Special beats Revival 2-0 (who then is eliminated 2-1 by Patience), but is then eliminated 0-4 vs Alive and Byul. Rogue is a surprise elimination here, beating JYP and Zanster (who beat Byul!) before losing to Alive in the WB finals and then Byul in the LB finals.

Group 5: Parting makes it all the way to the LB finals but loses to Trap; Gumiho sails through the WB. Some Russian guy I've never heard of ("Overpass") goes out 0-4; NoRegret goes out 1-4. Trust and Impact also eliminated here.

Group 6: Zest and Classic qualify, True/Leenock/Cure fail, a Zerg named Terror (didn't he used to be a terrible player on Prime?) loses 2-1 to Classic and is then marked as a free win for Leenock in the LB for some reason (DQ? withdrew?)

Group 7: The great hope HAS takes a game from Innovation and eliminates Elazer (GET REKT) and Ryung (GET REKT) before tragically falling to, of all people, Ragnarok. MMA is back, he beat Elazer before losing to Innovation/Ragnarok. German Zerg Lambo goes out 1-4, sOs and Innovation qualify.

Day 2: doing it again, now without the players in bold above! Whereas day 1 is double elimination with a full loser's bracket, day 2 appears to move things a little faster - first round is lose-and-you're-out, loser's bracket starts in the 2nd round (top 4).

Group 1: Genius (!!) shows up, loses 2-1 to Ragnarok. Dear wins the WB, Zanster wins the LB after beating a random and Forte, losing to Dear, and beating Ragnarok.

Group 2: Puck beats a random but loses to Rogue and jjakji. True beats jjakji once, loses to Rogue, then beats jjakji again to qualify and eliminate him. Poor jjakji.

Group 3: SortOf surprisingly takes the WB over a random, Creator, and Emotion (a Protoss who sounds like a "The Artist Formerly Known As" name but was actually apparently on Samsung Galaxy back in the Proleague days and almost never does anything noteworthy). Apparently Emotion at least has Hero's number, because after eliminating Major/Special in the first round he beats Hero once in the WB and again in the LB finals to qualify. Creator 2-0s Revival in the first round, RIP TSL.

Group 4: In some disgusting foreigner-on-foreigner violence, NoRegret beats random Korean in the first round and Kelazhur vanquishes a bye before they each lose their next matches (to Ryung and Impact, respectively) and are forced to do battle in the LB, where Kelazhur eliminates NR. Ryung returns from his WB finals loss to Impact to eliminate Kelazhur.

Group 5: Parting beats Top but unceremoniously loses to Cure and Elazer to get eliminated. Cure wins the WB against Hurricane, Elazer beats Hurricane in a rematch to take the LB. Terror is also in this bracket but gave his opponent a walkover. Weird.

Group 6: Leenock qualifies over Billowy and Trust, Supernova beats random Taiwanese dude before losing to Trust/Billowy to get eliminated. Billowy beats Trust in the LB finals, so maybe Artosis will be right this season!

Group 7: The great hope HAS beats JYP in a close 2-1 match, but falls 2-1 to Patience and 2-1 to MMA in another tragic result. MMA's success is all for naught as he loses to Patience in the LB finals. Bunny sweeps the WB.

So, after 3 foreigners being in Code S last season, we'll now have 4 (we lost NoRegret but added Elazer and Zanster). Should be cool to see!

Heh, from SC Reddit: Blizzard forcing True to choose between WCS Austin and GSL, even though all the other foreigners who qualified for GSL can play in both

True has basically been a "foreigner" since the region lock; he got whatever visa/residency requirement he needed to play the WCS circuit events (Austin, Jonkoping, Valencia, Montreal) last year, and played in Leipzig this year. The other foreigners who qualified for GSL have not been banned to only one set of tournaments or the other (GSL vs. WCS circuit), but I guess because True is Korean he doesn't get the same benefits? Seems whack.

To put a slightly different spin on it than what the TL thread has been talking about - players like Hero, Creator, Hurricane, Trust, and jjakji are sitting out of GSL S2 (and its guaranteed $3k+ prize for ro32 finishers, when Korean SC2 is already extremely hard to get paid in) because Blizzard lets foreigners compete for their spots, but not the other way around.

NationWars: the only tournament where you can watch a Norwegian Protoss you've never heard cannon rush an Italian Zerg you might have heard of, who went pool first and scouts the cannon rush, and still loses his natural to cannons anyway

There's going to be some kind of stream tomorrow and Saturday for the 20th anniversary of Starcraft. Idra and Huk are going to be there so that will probably be entertaining. I'm going to be out of town so I will miss all of it.

I'm just stoked for the GSL grand final,

and basically every matchup in the Super Tournament.

Trust seems like the only thing that is not like the others, every other matchup is a top-level Korean vs. top-level Korean

NationWars: the only tournament where you can watch MacSed go gate -> nexus -> core on ****ing Abiogenesis, not wall off fully, against NoRegret, and just insta-lose to 20 lings walking into his base when he has 1 adept and it's out on the map

Maybe the Great Firewall blocked Abiogenesis from getting into China's map pool

It is so amazing that they produced a graphic update of BW but kept it looking 10 years older than SC2. The fanbase would be enraged if they used more than 100 pixels per unit model.
