Well I did learn a bit of it to read the player names should I tune in midway through a game. You can pick up when important stuff is going on through tone alone, and reading translations shows you just how far ahead they are of anything non-korean

But in any case, I don't think there's been a good English GSL commentator ever, if it isn't Tastosis with their crappy attempts at humour, it's "there's no match fixing, honest" Wolf, they almost make kellymilkies seem competent. Spent most of Blizzcon listening to Take's stream because they dropped Apollo to the bench for the important stuff

Cliffs are:
- WCS is split into "WCS Global" and "WCS Circuit
- WCS Global is basically Korea, it's GSL/SSL (there must be more to this? otherwise dumbest name ever)
- WCS Circuit is events like Red Bull, IEM, Dreamhack, etc
- players can only compete in WCS Circuit events if they have an athletic visa valid in NA/EU (no tourist visas)
- top 8 from WCS Global and top 8 from WCS Circuit = Blizzcon

If this is true, they're basically ****ing Koreans and gifting foreigners Blizzcon spots, and basically every tournament outside Korea (including Blizzcon) will be drastically worse in quality. My expectations for Blizzard are barely high enough that I feel like there are important things this is missing, they can't possibly be this stupid, right?

Foreigner interest hinges on foreigner tournament visibility, so yes I agree that this is really bad from a pure competitive perspective, it makes sense from a business perspective. I don't care to be honest.

I guess for some people it does. I honestly can't see myself watching a tournament without Koreans unless it's time zone friendly.

NationWars III, a tournament that I probably won't pay all that much attention to since it's impossible for there to be a Korean vs Korean game.

Perfectly fine with the WCS changes. Can still watch highest level if you want. Now more possibilities of (still entertaining) games in the foreign scene. I guess it sucks if you're a lower level Korean that can only make bank by going to foreign events but that's a fault of gsl/ssl structure tbqh

WCS details are out. Without parsing all the details, the high-level info released earlier seems about right - WCS Korea and region-locked WCS Circuit are the two feeders into the Blizzcon Ro16, which looks like a group stage thing with 2 players each from KR/Circuit, top 2 players out of each group make the 8 players at Blizzcon.

So yeah, Blizzard taking a dump on Koreans to subsidize ****ty white people. Plus, while Blizzard is hyping this as "more prize money!!", we basically get a lot less Starcraft:
- 2 seasons each of GSL/SSL, last year had 3
- no more WCS Premier, just the circuit events like IEM/DH/etc that were already happening anyway

The system leaves open the possibility for "WCS Global" events which are neither part of Korea nor Circuit, but are open to all players (KR+foreigners) and offer points to whichever region a player comes from. However, it doesn't specify that any Global events are actually scheduled right now - it sounds like that's just an option for IEM/DH/etc people if they want to put on those events (and want to pony up $50k in prize money, which I think is more than DH has done recently).

In short: seems like this blows.
