From what I've been told during my entire time playing SC2 by people who are better than me, Zerg needs to be up on bases to stay even with T/P. If that's correct, then I don't see what the problem with Zerg having a "free early 3rd" is, and in any case that wouldn't even accurately describe the current meta, where pro Terrans start their 3rd CC faster than Zergs start their 3rd hatch in every single game unless they 1/1/1.
And they don't have to sacrifice very much economy at all to do this - your normal reaper/hellion opener from 2013 is now a reaper/hellbat opener that requires Zerg to spend loads of money on roaches/banelings to stay alive (watch
this game from Code A last night to see what happens if you don't, spoiler on who plays the loser's match), all for the low cost of one stupid armory. Want to go 1/1/1 and add cloaked banshees? That's cheap too. Now we're gonna add back original splash damage mines to this current meta? Dear lord.
