I opened the balance test thread on TL to see if people were playing the map, see what they thought of the changes, etc. Scrolled to a random post near the end. First thing I read:

i see almost every player controlling both stalkers and sentries in the same hotkey 2 or 3 w/e. but my problem is how do u switch from blink to say force field or halluc? when u hit '2' or '3' the primary units u contrl are sentries. help, anyone?

you have 10 hotkeys for a reason, use them

More balance test stuff:

- they like the thor AA change, seems good
- they like the time warp duration decrease and want to nerf it even more
- they think widow mine change is too strong vs protoss and too weak vs zerg

Their solution, for the widow mine:

Played my placement game tonight (on my main account, been mostly smurfing this season). ZvT on Foxtrot. I scout typical reaper gas timing, and then I see my opponent try to bunker my ramp. I laugh and let him do it, because unless it's like proxy 8-8-8-8 bunkers mean almost nothing with reapers inside them.

To my utter delight, he gets the bunker up and goes full ****** deciding to commit to this.



After the bunker went up, he was like "OMG I've got this!!!!11" and pulled like 3 more SCVs and built a proxy barracks right there and another bunker.

Want to guess how that went for him, with me doing nothing more than a decent number of lings, a spine, and my normal 4 queens?





LOL Terrans, dude probably went to cry on TL about how reapers need a buff after the game.

Catallena is my first veto of the new season. In ZvT:



...with green being the areas I control as I macro up and red being where Terran pushes from - that high ground where the red arrow is is way, way too powerful. Zerg cannot attack into it - they put mines down, form a concave, it's suicidal. You can't get creep up there either. So they set up shop and send marines down, try to bait you, push you back a little each time, eventually they get mines down and pre-spread a little in the area between your natural and your 3rd - and then it's game over. And of course there's always the option of picking up into medivacs and just airlifting into your main, which is actually pretty far by ground from where your army will be at this point.

Can't do it.

eta: the one thing I can think of is to dump some supply into 6-8 swarm hosts and point them up that ramp, since it takes away their ability to fight with small groups of units and puts some impetus on them to attack and take a suboptimal engagement instead of being able to just existentially siege you by sitting there. Maybe I'll try that.

you could put some spores on edges of your bases to prevent airlifting, use one creep tumor in main to spread creep

Don't know anything about or watch or play DOTA but it's kinda redic they have $10M+ prize pool for their championship and it's on ESPN 3 right now.

Monday finals. A really awful bo3 format that played game 1 on Saturday night then finished them Sunday morning. Then the prize disparity being brutal, 2 teams winning $0 and a huge jump from 44k to over $500k on a single bo3.

Also you get spoiled with the GSL production quality from SC2. DOTA2 production always leaves me going meh. Figured with ESPN involved they'd get to in game replays and what not or at least some awesome ESL type recaps after and it was just the same talking points the casters had during the game.

For almost 11 million dollar prize pool it left be underwhelmed. The games kind of sucked generally too.

Goofy you really think catallena is worse than deadwing? Deadwing reminds me of those old maps where horizontal spawns is an automatic loss.

I've played very few games on Deadwing so far so I don't have much of a sample. But yeah it looks like it has the potential to be pretty bad for Zerg with horizontal spawns. That said, 2/3 of the time it's a huge, open map with a long rush distance, so it should be good for Z in those situations?
