I played this dude just now who told me he was streaming after the game (usually I think that's douchey but he was really nice), so I went and looked at the vod on his stream page after the game to see how it looked from his POV. In particular, there was one moment I was particularly proud of, and it's hilarious how from his vision it makes me look like I have GSL level micro:

Whenever I'm warming up with a few team games I always lose base races when my teammate has a 3k 1k bank and loses their production.

Keep trying to convince them leave or send me resources

teammates in 2v2 games are the worst

i'll literally get matched up with someone in bronze and they won't send me resources because they think they know better than i do how to spend their 6k in resources with one starport

He lost all of his production, wouldn't share control, and then proceeded to queue up 8 supply depots with one scv

the only thing i've found ever works is if you build up a rapport with them at the start (which i don't usually do) so they 'trust' you to not waste their money

I play normally, get a third slightly earlier than normal, then go check out what he's doing at the gold if he landed it there:

For the uninitiated, a planetary natural is the hallmark sign that you are going up against a mass raven strategy. So, this guy is going to take some bases with static defense (planetaries/turrets), build lots of starports, and build lots of ravens. Let's see how it works out for him!

I begin by doing the most sensible thing I could think of:



One thing you need to know about people who use this strategy is that they are all terrible at Starcraft. This guy is not going to "apply pressure" or "harass drones" or anything that good Starcraft players do: he's going to sit in his base and make lots of ravens. So **** it, let him, I'm gonna take my half of the map if he won't stop me.

Aww, he thinks he's gonna take another base!



So cute.



I haven't actually scouted at all since the start of the game, but if there was any need to worry that maybe this guy isn't bad and isn't doing the exact strategy for the next 15 minutes I thought he would do based on scouting one little detail at the 5 minute mark, it's now gone.

With all 5 bases mining gas, I focus entirely now on my plan for domination: MUTALISKS.

I kill the turrets at the gold while my muta count keeps building, he comes with the ravens so I circle around and kill some stuff in the main (mostly starport tech labs), then circle back to the gold and finish it off. We dance some more:



and he taps out after those seekers fizzle; I'm maxed with 44 mutas, he has eight ravens left.

In short: LOL MASS RAVEN PLAYERS.

It's not in pro level play because it's a ******ed strategy, but ******ed **** works on ladder all the time because people don't react to stuff like this properly.

That's basically it. It's really effective against people that don't know how to counter it and completely fails against people that do. It also requires very little APM and multitasking and has a fair amount of troll EV as well.

I remember when I used to lose against it all the time, id throw waves and waves of ultra ling at his production and slowly lose all my bases and done.

Now I usually hit him with maxed Roach hydra before he has enough ravens and then transition into mutas if that doesn't kill him.

Today's LOL PROTOSS of the day:

guy opens double pylon block on overgrowth with a gateway first vs my very delayed 3 hatch without gas. he completely walls himself into his main with a pylon (so obviously i throw down spores everywhere, and get mass queens). he flies his oracle right into a spore and two queens, killing 0 things (he didn't even activate his beam). that transitions into a ~9 minute +1 gateway attack (one base, of course) without a mothership core. it does surprisingly well since he runs straight past my 3 spines at the third and zealots always trade well vs lings and queens, but I hold it off without losing drones.

he then tries to double expand (because he was floating well over 1k minerals). i kill his third, park outside his natural with upgraded roach hydra vs zealot sentry. he does the thing where he has a probe out building a hidden base and makes 10 cannons at his natural. he makes a bunch of DTs, but loses his entire army (except for like 2 DTs) focusing down my three overseers.

he then spams BG and leaves when I find his hidden base, kill that, then roll over his 5 archon 3 zealot army.

SC2 would be significantly more fun to watch if every ZvZ was replaced with a TvT where the players are only allowed to build marines without stim or combat shields

I might play out ZvZs on ladder if they did that.
