Blizzard sues maphack creators

Man Tasteless and Artosis just called a game so ****ing terribly that I have to rant about it here.

If you haven't watched GSL and are going to, don't open this, but if you have watched or don't care about being spoiled on the winner's match series then read on:

Spoiler:
Game 1 on King Sejong.

sOs takes 3 quick bases and goes into triple stargate void rays. He sends like 4 voids and the mship core down to the 4th to try to snipe the 4th base from the protected high ground area, Soulkey has some hydras + a spore or two around and denies him. Soulkey goes around and up the ramp to that position with some hydras, snipes the mothership core but reinforcement voids come to save the first 4 voids from dying. With like 9 void rays at the 4th base now, he turns on the charge and annihilates the spores + hatch, but of course lost the ability to recall the voids safely from the earlier snipe.

Meanwhile, Soulkey has 18 mutas popping, and with those + help from a few hydras he kills all the void rays.

Anyone watching this game would be recognize that losing nine void rays is a MASSIVE, MASSIVE loss for Protoss here despite the damage done to Zerg by killing his 4th. Artosis says something like "if he could have recalled it's gg, but instead loses all the voids" nonchalantly without seeming to understand/care that it's actually a huge ****ing deal. As all the voids die, it's now 151-127 in supply. sOs' entire army is 14 zealots (which started tearing down the rocks during the VR attack to harass Soulkey from behind), with 1 sentry and a rebuilt mothership core at home. THAT'S HIS ENTIRE ARMY.

Meanwhile Tastosis are orgasming about the multitasking of sOs with the zealot harass. It is effective, and kills the 5th base (the one you have to build pretty forward) and some drones, but poor focus firing means he fails to kill any of the first 3 bases or any important tech buildings. Back home he goes into triple phoenix production while continuing with zealot harass, as Soulkey starts making corruptors to deal with the phoenixes. With the 4th and 5th dying though, Soulkey starts staying home and with his army no longer spread out, the zealot harass stops being very effective (except at denying his 4th from getting up again).

With supplies at 145-120 (for Soulkey):
Artosis: "he's just tearing him apart everywhere"
Tasteless: "sOs is tearing him a new one, uh, wow..."
Artosis: "...this is crazy..."
Tasteless: "...this is a total beat down"
Artosis: "He's like the Octo-Toss right now, he's absolutely everywhere"

Meanwhile, in the real world, ~equal worker counts, equal bases, and sOs' entire army is phoenixes (15) and the existential threat of zealot harass. With 11 corruptors and 14 mutas, Soulkey starts going into hydra production again.

Ironically, the casters choose this moment to make a meta joke about how people accuse them of losing passion/not playing:
Artosis: "He has so many phoenixes, if he didn't grab that drone before it could start the hatch he could have even lifted up the hatchery if it was made"
Tasteless: "<laughs, does a fake voice> No Artosis, excuse me I need to e-mail Gom about this, that one is not accurate game analysis"
Artosis: "<joins in doing the fake voice> Artosis doesn't even know, he doesn't play the game"

If only this entire game wasn't building credibility to that argument.

Zealots finish off the 4th base a second time, but while sOs has been spending all this time and money on disposable harassing units, Soulkey has been cranking out units and now has 185-145 supply. With these armies:



he marches up to sOs' natural ramp and straight up kills him. It took some good corruptor micro to get the colossi (another one popped shortly after above screenshot, and those were the only things that really threatened Soulkey) w/o losing all the corruptors to voids, but once that fell it was over. The casters never saw any of this coming because they were too busy spending the entire game fapping over sOs.

I mean, that's not inexcusable, it only happens in ZvZ and I think he plays Protoss. He should know that but it's not the worst thing ever if he doesn't. Casters should also know that +1 armor lings no longer get one-shot by no upgrade banes because that occasionally becomes important but I wouldn't be too upset if a caster didn't know that.

When evaluating casters I think there's a pretty big difference between "not knowing mildly obscure facts" and "miscalling an entire game".

their fake nerd voices are incredibly annoying

aside from that, they always care more about creative play than who's actually winning. all you have to do is look at the supplies to see that.

to be fair, if <the player who lost> had held that, he wins...but he was never going to hold.

I think I might start playing again. Goofy, you and I should have a showmatch to see how bad I've become after 6 months of not even watching the game. Or anyone, for that matter.

It would be ZvZ, though, so boring. I haven't played a macro ZvZ against someone higher than gold league in months. You should play against bsball's Terran.

i'd be down.

on a separate note, i played a diamond Protoss (i was terran). gl hf, no response. whatever.

he goes proxy oracle (did some damage, but not irrecoverable). I played my normal polt style (3 barracks into medivacs into third), killed his colossus, did a lot of economic damage, etc. I was ahead, and about to hit his newly taken third, when he pauses the game. i ask him how long it'll be, no response. he waits about a minute, then unpauses without saying anything. probably a 90% chance he was hoping i wasn't paying attention and that he'd get a good 30 seconds of free time. of course he had his colossus sitting out in the open, so i sniped them and then killed him.

no gg, when i tried to message him after the game, he had chat disabled.

Balance patch incoming:
- hellion/hellbat transformation is unlocked at armory instead of w/ special upgrade, because Terrans should never have to upgrade things like siege mode or turning super fast drone/ling assassins into super powerful drone/ling assassins
- brood lords immune to abduct, so that going broods isn't auto-lose against spore+viper+swarm host. The way they're making this change is, of course, ******ed - I think they're giving brood lords frenzy, which ultras have to make them immune to fungal

Does that mean broods are also now immune to fungal? Does that mean ultras can't be abducted now? (could they before?) This is just like the muta change where blizz only wanted it to affect mutas but now spores kill ANY flying zerg unit ******edly fast, which helped get us into this current swarm host mess in the first place.

Losira streaming, gets a couple games against Huk. Game 1 Huk does big 4gate zealot attack which is eventually held into immortal-sentry followup which kills Losira. Game 2 he opens w/ cannon rush @ natural then goes SUPER HARD trying to also cannon the 3rd, fails, loses like 3 pylons and 3 cannons doing no damage (other than forcing lings). Goes into oracle, third base, void rays/immortals/sentries, Losira eventually kills him with roach-hydra-viper (don't usually see vipers for reasons other than abducting colossi but blinding clouds did pretty well).

#PROTOSS

Side note: is running an entire mineral line away from an oracle so that it gets 3 kills instead of 5 really better than just giving away the extra drones and keeping everyone else mining?

I streamed tonight, had some good games and some (really) bad ones (14 pool, lose to bad cannon rush from really bad random player, lol), but my favorite was definitely this:

ZvT on Merry Go Round, he's dropping one place and attacking in another over and over, really annoying to deal with, I put several spores in my main and he just boosts over them. He's used this to deny my 4th and 5th bases pretty effectively (plus it's hard to take them on this map without good creep spread), so I get into a spot where my economy is bad, he kills my ultralisk den (I do start like 8 ultras just before he does that though), and I'm like "**** it, time to push with my army and either die or make him leave".

Yes I know my control sucks not sniping the collosus, but obv I had the game won no matter what I did. It's nice when they fail a cannon rush because you just know you're going to win unless you throw like 90% of the time.

At x4 speed your play almost looks like what you'd see on a Korean Zerg's stream

After playing a couple custom games to see how bad my mechanics are, I'm actually not nearly as bad as I thought I would be. I'll be around after LCS tonight (~9PM EST) if anyone wants to play.

Also, what are the normal map vetoes for Zerg right now?
